The days of stopping at one store and buying everything in one location are long gone. We’ve put together a list of
items you shouldn’t buy at the grocery store and we show you where to get them.
Tuna
Essentially a product from Chicken of the Sea, 5 ounce cans of Van Camp’s Chunk White Albacore Tuna in Water
are available for $1 per can at Dollar Tree. A similar product in the grocery store costs 59 cents more per can.
Olive Oil
Is it really worth buying expensive olive oil? We don’t think so. This 68 ounce Iberia Premium Blend Extra Virgin
Olive Oil sells at Target for $9.69. Reviewers love this less expensive alternative saying it’s great for everything.
Compare it with a standard 17 ounce size of Bertolli Extra Virgin Olive Oil ——much less oil, selling for roughly the
same $9.99 when it’s not on sale.
Vitamins
You might not realize the money you can reap on vitamins simply by buying them at a different store. A 100 count
bottle of vitamin D softgels can run to $11.29 at Walmart. A 180 count bottle of Trader Joes vitamin D 1000 iu softgels
is only $11.99. That’s almost double the amount.
Storage Containers
3
For storing food, children’s supplies, or whatever your household needs may be, there’s nothing better than plastic
storage containers. But why pay through the nose for them? Albertsons has two half cup Rubbermaid Easy Find Lids
food storage containers at $ 6.89. But you can buy six of those from Target for $7.99four more for about a dollar.
Socks
Dollar Tree has a good selection of men’s, women’s, and children’s socks. Women’s mini crew socks come in a
three count pack for $1. A three count of similar socks at Albertson’s will cost $ 6.59 and there are not many kinds.
21. How much does a can of similar Tuna in the grocery store probably cost?
A$0.95. B$1. C$1.59. D$0.41.
22. What can you get a better deal on at Trade Joe’s?
Avitamins Bolive oil Cstorage containers Dsocks
23. Who might be the target readers of the passage?
AManufacturers. BHousewives. CStore owners. DHealth experts.
B
As I cried in a hotel room in Osaka, a phone pressed to my right ear, my father was giving me his final advice from
his death bed in Ireland. The man who inspired me to become a travel journalist wanted to remind me I had the best job
in the world.
While “don't stop” was his last message to me, “won't stop” could have been his motto(座右). Even as he entered
his late 60s, badly affected by a physical disability, my father continued to travel. Not package holidays or lying in a
hammock(). Instead, he explored foreign cities on foot until they seeped into his pores. Adventures were what he
desired.
Once I began traveling with my father 15 years ago, small talk invariably transitioned to discussion of our next
journey. I loved few things more than surprising him with a new trip I'd booked for us. This was how our final adventure
began.
In our Athens apartment, I found his feet swelled up ( 肿 胀 ) enormously. His ankles had given him constant
discomfort. Whenever I suggested we take a break, he'd say: “You can sit down if you want; I've got something I want to
go see over there.” His physical limitations were simply overpowered by his desire to experience something new. He
walked all over Bucharest, Athens, and Rome. By the end of the trip, his mind could no longer override his body. His left
ankle was twice the size of his right. His chest was congested(充血的).
Dad spent weeks in hospital back in Ireland. He was completely paralyzed ()unable to see or talk or eat.
Yet, he remained conscious. Doctors encouraged us to chat to him, even though he could not respond. Day after day, I
sat by his hospital bed and talked about our funniest moments while traveling. Eventually, he came out of his paralysis.
When doctors said he was almost ready to go home, I took the chance to fly to Asia for my journalism job.
Then, in the middle of a cold night, my phone rang. Our final conversation took place. Jokes were exchanged, and
promises were made. Among them was my agreement that I wouldn't stop traveling.
24.What did the author love doing after joining his dad in adventure?
A. Visiting Asian countries.
B. Reading adventure novels.
C. Surprising his dad with his adventures.
D. Arranging trips unexpected to his dad.
25.What can we learn about the author's dad?
A. He worked as a journalist.
B. He was a man of strong will.
C. He desired to be a famous explorer.
D. He enjoyed hiking in the mountains.
26.What did the author do while keeping his dad company in hospital?
