Sunlight means warm weather and spending time outdoors. But when the
temperature rises quickly, it's time for us to get out of the sun and cool down.
It's the same for cities.
Dubai
In Dubai, rows of high-tech pavilions(亭) in the shape of date palms, a kind of local
trees, have been“planted”in parks, waterfronts, streets and other public
places to keep its citizens cool when they have nowhere else to go in the
summer heat. These pavilions are equipped with the air-conditioning cooling
system through which citizens can enjoy the fine water spray( 喷 洒 ). In particular, the
pavilions’energy is from solar energy.
Doha
To reduce the temperature of the road surface, the engineers in Doha took a bold
decision—to paint the road surface in blue color with the help of a heat reflective paint.
The paint contains a cooling material that reflects 50 percent of UV(紫外线的) rays. The
temperature of the road surface can be reduced by about 7 ℃ with the use of the
paint.Besides this, the blue color of the road is expected to bring a cooling effect on the
eyes.
Abu Dhabi
Abu Dhabi is located in the desert where temperatures regularly rise to 49 ℃.To help
beat the heat, some buildings here are turning to umbrellas for staying
cool. The designers wrapped the buildings’ outer walls in a shell of umbrella-shaped
elements. The facility moves, turns on or off with the path of the sun, minimizing the heat
brought by the sun.
Kuwait City 100
The National Bank of Kuwait combines structural innovation to beat the local
45℃summer heat. The idea of the shape of the building is from the mussel( 蚌) which
opens up to the north in the shape of a butterfly. The central and southern part together
form the structural system of the tower, making the best use of upper floor space and
protecting the building from direct sunlight.
21. How does Dubai fight summer heat?
A. By sticking mussel shells to the buildings.
B. By planting a large number of date palms.
C. By painting the roads with reflective paint.
D. By building pavilions with cooling system.
22. Why is the blue color chosen to paint the road in Doha?
A. It is believed to be visually cooling for people.
B. It reflects heat better when mixed with the paint.
C. It is proved to have the strongest UV-reflecting effect.
D. It is an accidental choice instead of an intentional one.
23.What do we know about the umbrellas fixed on the buildingin AbuDhabi?
A. They are inspired by nature.
.

Brian Linden worked as a part-time carpet cleaner while attending night school in
Chicago. One day, he went to the home of a professor who had just returned from China
to do the job. The professor asked him to help place a marker on the world map at the

embarked on a new journey to China with his family, visiting Fujian Tulou, Guangdong
Watchtowers, and old Tibetan houses in Kangding... Until 2006, they discovered Dali
Xizhou, YunnanProvince.
By now, Linden has settled in Xizhou for 18 years. His guesthouse offers
free English classes on a weekly basis for residents. Professional experts from different

Color psychology( 色彩心理学) is a fascinating field seeking to understand the
psychological and physiological responses that different colors bring to mind in
individuals. It can be traced back to ancient civilizations, where colors were
associated with specific meanings and symbolism. For example, in ancient Egypt,
the color blue was associated with the sky and represented fertility and rebirth.
Throughout history, artists and philosophers have explored the relationship between
colors and emotions, leading to the development of modern color psychology.
Certain colors can evoke( 唤 起 ) specific emotional and cognitive responses.
Warm colors like red and orange are generally associated with energy and
stimulation, while cool colors like blue and green are associated with calmness
and relaxation.
Based on the associations, companies often use color psychology to stir up
desired emotional responses in consumers. Fast-food chains often incorporate red
and yellow in their branding to increase physical desire for food and convey a
sense of urgency. Color choices in interior design and architecture can greatly
impact the atmosphere and mood of a space.Certain colors may promote
productivity in work environments, while others may create a sense of tranquility
in residential settings. Color is also used in therapeutic( 治 疗 的 ) settings to create a
desired emotional effect. For instance, blue is often used in healthcare settings
to promote a sense of calmness and trust.
Experts have made some important discoveries and observations about color
psychology and its impact on mood, emotion and behavior, and understanding the
principles of color psychology can empower individuals and professionals to make
informed decisions regarding color choices in various contexts. However, what
