tips should help keep your four-legged pets happy while they’re alone, which will make coming home to

pet burn off nervous energy with a 30- to 60-minute walk before you leave.
Chat Them Up
While you’re at work, you can watch your furry friend through an indoor security camera. You can
also video chat over Skype by setting up an account for your pet, enabling the auto-answer and leaving
your home computer on.
Play Mind Games
Even the most quiet pet can gnaw （啃） out of boredom or separation anxiety. Put biscuits in a hole
or other feeding toys that a dog needs to chew, bang, or spin just the right way to access the treats. Indoor
cats will enjoy toys, such as a noisy ball.
Contain, Don’t Crate
Don’t put your pets in a cage, which can lead to behavior problems from lack of exercise and
socialization. Instead, keep him or her in a small area with food, water, toys, and a corner covered with
newspapers.
Find a Room with a View
Arrange a spot where your dog or cat can look out the window. If you have an enclosed yard where
it’s safe for your furry friends to run, fit a pet door to allow them to go out as they please.
Track Their Steps
GPS collars, which text you if your pet leaves a safe zone, are especially important for animals when
they go outdoors. Most also function as activity trackers, so you can tell how much exercise your dog is
getting during the day.

Jerry was always in a good mood and always had something positive to say. He was a unique
manager because he had several waiters who had followed him around from restaurant to restaurant. The
reason why the waiters followed Jerry was because of his attitude. He was a natural motivator. If an
employee was having a bad day, Jerry was there telling the employee how to look on the positive side of
the situation.
Seeing this style really made me curious, so one day I went up to Jerry and asked him, “You can’t be
a positive person all of the time. How do you do it?” Jerry replied, “Each morning I say to myself, ‘Jerry,
you have two choices today. You can choose to be in a good mood or in a bad mood.’ I choose to be in a
good mood. Each time something bad happens, I choose to learn from it. Every time someone comes to me
complaining, I can choose to accept their complaining or I can point out the positive side of life. I choose
the positive side of life.”
Several years later, he went to open the door of the restaurant in the morning and was held up at
gunpoint by three armed robbers. While trying to open the safe, his hand, shaking from nervousness and he
can’t recall the combination. The robbers panicked and shot him. Luckily, Jerry was found relatively
quickly and rushed to the local medical center. I saw Jerry about six months after the accident. When I
asked him how he was, he replied, “Wanna see my scars?” I declined to see his wounds, but did ask him
what had gone through his mind as the robbery took place. “I remembered that I had two choices: I could
choose to live, or I could choose to die. I chose to live.” Jerry lived thanks to the doctors, but also his
amazing attitude. I learned from him that every day we have the choice to live fully. Attitude, after all, is
everything.
