The famous magazine, Runner's World, has chosen some of the best, most difficult and enjoyable UK races.
Top of the Wolds 10K Challenge
This 10-km countryside track in Yorkshire is all fun until you take the left turn at Nunburnholme. At this point,
you enter a serious uphill part, but thankfully the uphill part only lasts for around 1.5km. You'll have about a
kilometre to enjoy the views before the way takes you downhill again, and back to where you started in Warter —a
cute little village.
Scurry2Bridges Run
This 161-km relay race is divided into 16 parts, so you each run 4 separate parts. Over the course of this day-
long adventure, you'll each run about marathon distance while the workers will drive around for pick-ups and drop-
off s at relay exchange points between the start in Dundee and the finish in Edinburgh.
Scafell Sky Race
Here's a trail run（越野跑） that is not suitable for beginners. With a total of 3,500 m of ascent（上坡路）,
this is unquestionably one of the hardest events around. Good thing is that the views are beautiful, and that there's
hot food and a bottle of apple juice waiting for you in the end.
Offa's Dyke 15
The traditional 15-mile distance begins at the Clock Tower in Hay-on-Wye and includes a few hard climbs
before finishing in Kington. This year the hard event has added a challenging 10 km around Kington.

Our school owned a boat named Jolie Brise. It was one of the most famous tall ships in the world and three
times winner of the Fastnet Race. The boat was unusual: especially for a remote grammar school in Wiltshire, about
as far away from the sea as it can get in England. Obviously, such a site didn't match its fame.
Mr. Parish had originally intended to join the Royal Navy but ended up as a teacher at our school. Some pupils
guessed that he still felt the call of the ocean---perhaps because his lessons were almost entirely devoted to
navigation（航海）. They argued that it was deeply unfair to learn about navigation but never actually go to sea.
Then Mr. Parish, seeing a bunch of young people prepared to crew the boat, allowed them to sail her in return for
working on the boat. And that was the beginning of the school sailing club.
By the time I arrived, the sailing club had grown. At weekends, we would work on her all day, cleaning and
painting her, and collapse into sleeping bags on the floor at night. Then came the big day when a school sailing trip
was announced. Its destination was Saint-Malo. But it also meant that we had to refit the ship by removing every
piece of ballast（压舱物） and replacing the bi l ge water（底舱污水） before we were allowed to sail.
And I did learn the ropes on that school trip. I learned how to operate a ship in the high waves. I learned the
meaning of team work and became a better team player. I also learned that the best fish is the one that you have
