不定冠词 a, an 的用法
a和an 均用在单数名词之前，表示某一类人或事物中的“一个”，相当于汉语的“一”，
但不强调数目观念。a用在以辅音音素开头的词前，而不是辅音字母前；an 用在以元音音
素开头的词前。如：a notebook 一个笔记本，a cigarette 一支香烟，an old man 一位老人，
an English class 一堂英语课。
注意：a 用在辅音音素前，而不是辅字字母前；an 用在元音音素前，而不是元音字母前。
所以，判断须使用 a 还是 an 时必须根椐单词发音的第一个音（标），而不是单词拼写的
第一个字母。 如：a university 一所大学 an honest man 一个诚实的人
(1) 用于可数单数名词前，表示“一（个）”。
She has just bought a bag. 她刚买了一个包。
There is a book on the desk. 桌子上有一本书。
(2) 指任何一个人，动物或一件事物。如：
A lion is a dangerous animal. 狮子是猛兽。
A moon-cake is a delicious, round cake. 月饼是一种可口的圆饼。
(3) 指某人或某物，但不具体说明何人或何物。如：
He comes from a firm in Beijing. 他来自北京某一家公司。
A young man wants to see you. 有个青年人要见你。
A car stopped in front of the gate. 一辆汽车停在大门前。
(4) 用于单位、数量、价格、比率等之前，表示“每，每一”。
Butter is 4 yuan a kilo. 黄油四元钱一斤。
He drove the car at 18 miles an hour. 他行车速度为每小时十八英里。
The doctor told him to take the medicine three times a day. 医生叫他一天吃三次药。

定冠词 the 的用法
1) 特指某（些）人或某（些）事物。如：
This is the house where Lu Xun once lived. 这是鲁迅曾经住过的房子。We plan to We
plan to cut the wheat in these fields in three days' time. 我们计划三天后割这块地的小麦。
2) 指说话人和听话人彼此所熟悉的人或事物。如：
Open the door, please. 请开门。（双方都知道指的是哪一个门）
The manager is in his office. 经理在他的办公室里。（双方都知道指的是哪个经理）
3) 复述上文提过的人或事物。如：
Once there lived a lion in the forest. Every day the lion asked small animals to 　　look
for food for him. 从前森林里住着一只狮子。每天这只狮子要小动物们为他寻找食物。
4) 表示在世界上独一无二的事物，如 the sun 太阳，the moon 月亮，the earth 地球，the
sky 天空，the world 世界。
5) 表示演奏乐器时，西洋乐器的名词前应加定冠词 the。
My sister doesn't like playing the piano. 我姐姐不喜欢弹钢琴。
He started learning the flute at the age of six. 他6岁时开始学长笛。
6) 在序数词、形容词最高级和表示方位的名词前常用定冠词 the。如：
He is always the first to come and the last to leave. 他总是第一个来, 最后一个离开。 　
Shanghai is the biggest city in China. 上海是中国最大的城市。
7) 表示方向，方位
in the east 在东方
in the west 在西方
in the bottom 在底部
on the right 在右边
at the back 在后面
8) 表示江河、海洋、海峡、海湾等地理专有名词一般要有定冠词 the 修饰。
the Yellow River 长江
the Indian Ocean 印度洋
the English Channel 英吉利海峡
9) 表示阶级、政党的名词前必须用 the。如：
the Chinese Communist Party 中国共产党
the working class 工人阶级
10) 用在普通名词构成的专有名词中。
the West Lake 西湖 the Great Wall 长城
the United States 美国 the Unite Nations 联合国
11) 和某些形容词连用，使形容词名词化，代表一类人或物。
the deaf 聋人 / the dead 死者 / the blind 盲人 / the young 年轻人 / the old 老人 / the
sick 病人 / the wounded 伤员 / the poor 穷人 / the beautiful 美丽的事物
12) 在姓氏复数前，表示一家或夫妇俩。
The Whites came to see me yesterday. 怀特一家人昨天来看我。
