It was late at night. The traffic was usually bad at that time. Miss Brown wanted to be on time to
her friend’s house. She was afraid because it was raining, and the traffic was bad. Miss Brown also
had bad eyes. She didn’t think she looked beautiful when she wore glasses, so she didn’t wear
glasses any more. She was trying to read the road signs, but she could not see them. The first thing
she did was that she started to drive slowly. The second thing she did was that she turned on the
radio. When she listened to the radio she did not feel afraid or alone. The third thing she did was
that she went to a hotel and slept. She drove to her friend’s house the next morning when the
traffic was good. The third thing she did was the best idea. She did not want to lose time, but she

When you go to a dinner party, it’s a good idea to bring a small present. Flowers are always nice
and welcome or you may bring some drinks. For example, beer, brandy or something like that. You
should arrive on time or not more than five minutes late. Don’t get there early. If you are going to
be more than fifteen minutes late, you should call them or let them know. Try to be free at the
dinner table. If you don’t know how to use a fork and knife, don’t worry about it. You can watch
other people and follow them. If you still don’t know what to do, ask the person next to you. If you
like the food, you should say what you think of it. Of course, you will thank the hostess and host
for the meal after having the dinner. Usually a thank-you card is sent after the party.
