② 勉强的
Tom passed the examination by a narrow margin. 汤姆考试勉强及格。

The scholar narrowed his interest to Tang poetry. 这位学者的兴趣局限于唐诗。
批：提示学生 narrow 的反义词是“wide”。
3. scared 害怕的；恐惧的
She was very scared when she heard this news.
【扩展】scare vt. 使害怕
他们把他吓得交出了钥匙。They scared him into handing over the keys.
批注：给学生讲解 scared 的意思时，可以用 interested 来提示，scared 就是人感到害怕的意思，主语为人。
4. attention 注意力

注：提示常考短语：pay attention to
5. chat 闲聊；聊天
They chatted about the film shown last night. 他们闲聊着昨夜放的电影。

He often asked Philip to come in for a chat. 他经常邀菲利浦进来闲谈。
注：注意 chat 的过去式是双写的。
6. alone 独自
For years Mary lived alone in New York. 玛丽孤身一人在纽约生活了好几年。

独自一人时,她便看电视。She watches TV when she is alone.
② 只有,仅;单单
The rent alone is $300. 单房租就三百元。

When his wife died, he was very lonely. 太太死后他非常孤独。
② 偏僻的,人迹罕至的
荒凉的山村 a lonely mountain village
注：用一个句子来区分 alone 和lonely 的区别：Although he lives alone, he doesn’t feel lonely.
7. pretend 假装
She wasn't really crying; she was only pretending. 她并非真的在哭;她只是假装而已。
【常用搭配】pretend that/to
He pretended that he was innocent. 他假装无辜。
他假装对我友善。He pretended to be friendly with me.
注：注意 pretend 后接不定式的用法，此外可以跟学生总结下类似用法的动词：want, would like, promise 等等。
8. concern 关切；关心
Andrew expressed his concern. 安德鲁表示了他的关切。
【扩展 1】n. 关心的事,重要的事[C]
That's no concern of mine. 那不关我的事。
【扩展 2】vt. ①涉及,关系到;影响到
The letter is chiefly concerned with export commodities. 这封信主要是关于出口商品的。
The news concerns your brother. 这消息与你兄弟有关。
② 使担心;使不安[H][(+about/for)]
The boy's poor health concerned his parents. 那男孩健康状况不佳,使他的父母亲忧虑。
【扩展 3】concerned adj. 挂虑的,担心的,不安的[(+about/for/over)]
她不放心你的安全。She is concerned about your safety.
注：注意近义短语是：care about。
