It's good to have an older brother. He can protect you. However, a new study has found that

children with older brothers take longer to develop language skills.

A group of researchers(研究者) in Paris did the study. They studied more than 1,000 children

from birth to the age of 5.5 years old. They tested each child's language skills, such as vocabulary

and grammar, at ages 2,3, and 5.5. They found that children with an older brother tend( 倾向于)to

take two months longer on average(平均) to develop their language skills when compared to(与…

…相比) children with older sisters.

The researchers think this might be because older brothers typically(通常) talk a lot in order

to get their parents' attention(注意). Their younger brothers and sisters have fewer chances to talk.

Another reason might be that older sisters spend more time talking to their younger brothers and

sisters, which helps them learn language.

Children say their first words between 9 and 18 months old. The first words are usually either
