III. Cloze test (0.5%*20=10%)
In my senior year of high school, Mike and I were lined up in front of a small group of
students made up mainly of the leaders of the senior classes. Our teacher said to us, “The two of
you will never be 41 .”
There was some snickering() from some seniors 42 the teacher continued, “From now

teachers hurtful words and the snickering from our classmates that gave us strength to move 55 ,
to learn from our 56 and keep doing in both good times and bad times.
Perhaps you didn’t do well in school, were not popular, bad in math, or have other 57 to
underestimate() yourself. 58 none of them matter in the long run. They only matter if you
think they matter.

IV. Reading comprehension (1%*15=15%)
A
After setting up a free online Harry Potter center in April, the British author J.K. Rowing
brings even more good news.
In May, Rowling published a new fairy tale called The lckabog, which was free to read online
to help entertain people who are stuck at home because of the COVID-19 pandemic. The idea for
The Ackabog came to her while she was still writing Harry Potter. However, after the last Potter
book, she wanted to take a break from publishing, which ended up lasting five years.
The unique story is about a monster known as the lckabog, a fierce child-eating monster who
lives in the northern tip of an imaginary land known as Cornucopia and has incredible powers.
Though the book is written for children, it is also fascinating to adults. It addresses many
relatable topics, such as weak leadership, misuse of power and suppression(镇压)of those who are
holding different opinions.
“The lckabog is a story about truth and the wrong use of power,” Rowling wrote on the
website.” “To raise one obvious question: the idea came to me well over many years ago, so It
isn’t planned to be read as a response() to anything that’s happening in the world right now.
The themes are timeless and could apply to(适用) in any era or any country.”
Rowling posted the first two chapters online on May 26, with daily installments( ) to
