People make many different kinds of houses around the world. Weather

tells us what kind of house we need to make.

In hot places such as South China and South America, the weather is

warm, so people can be outside most of the time. But they still need to

keep themselves safe from the sun, rain and insects. Houses in such

places can have screens on their windows and doors. They let the wind

blow into the houses, but keep out the insects.

In Canada, North China and other cold places, houses need to keep out

the cold and keep in the heat. These houses need thick walls. If there is a

lot of snow, the roofs need to be built to let the snow fall off easily. These

houses cannot have flat roofs. The roofs must also be strong, so they can

hold a lot of snow.

My name is Millie. My dream home is a big house at the top of a hill.

There is a swimming pool and a big garden. There are five floors so I

have a lift instead of stairs.

On the ground floor, there is a big room for parties. There are twelve

tables in the room and each table is big enough for ten people. There is

also a small cinema for watching videos and DVDs.

On the first floor, there are eight bedrooms. Each bedroom has bunk beds,

a TV set and a balcony. The second floor is for my dog Baby. She has

lots of toys there. There is a computer room on the third floor, a sitting

room and a kitchen on the fourth floor.

People will build ninety floating (漂浮的) homes in Dubai (迪拜). They

are called Seahorse. It costs ＄1,000,000 to build such a home, because it

is very special. This new house will directly put you in the sea.

Each floating Seahorse has three floors—one underwater, one at sea level

and an upper deck (甲板). On the first floor, you have a sitting room with

big windows. You have dinner in the dining room on this floor. There is a

big balcony outside. You can do yoga, do some reading, enjoy an open

view of Dubai or anything you like here. You will have a good time on

the first floor. On the second floor, the upper deck, there is a kitchen with

a mini bar, an outdoor shower and a day bed. You will be very surprised

at the glass-walled (有玻璃墙的) bedroom and bathroom on the ground

floor. They are completely under the water. You can see all the fishes

swim around you. It's like living in an aquarium (水族馆).

Why do people call the home Seahorse? You know, the number of

seahorses is becoming smaller and smaller. Each floating home also has a

man-made coral garden. It's connected (连接) to the underwater level.

People build a man-made coral reef (人工珊瑚礁) around the area. It is a

good place for seahorses to live safety.

It is said that forty-two "floating seahorses" are in use now.
