M: My family is having a barbecue tomorrow. Would you like to come? All you

and we’ll play music and games.
W: That sounds great! I love barbecues. I’ll bring some potato salad. (2)
Text 3
W: Is that your dog?
M: Dog? That’s my cat. Did you forget your glasses today?

W: I found out I’m on the short list for the job I wanted!

very long. Would you like me to cut it for you? I’m going to do mine
tomorrow, anyway. (6)
W: Wonderful! (6) You are a very kind neighbor, Jim. My husband has been out
of town for three weeks, and he usually does it. (7)

M: I searched the Internet. (10) I thought if I was going to do all this
cleaning, I should do it right.
W: It looks great. I’m glad I asked you to do this room.

MAnna, it seems you fly on business trips.Don't you ever get bored?
WActually not.I mean, I don't always like the airport check in process. It takes a lot of time.I
also hate waiting for the plane. But as soon as I'm in the plane and the doors close, I love it.No one
can contact me.There are free movies playing and the food. It's a good way to make me relax.
MSo what do you try to do to avoid being bored when you're waiting for a plane?
WWell, the first thing I do is not get to the airport too early. After I check in, I normally go
to the duty-free store and buy some perfume. Then I'll go to the business waiting room, where
there's free drinks and food.
MDo you ever buy something for your family or colleagues?
WNormally I buy stamps for my father who is a stamp collector and clothes for my
fashionable mother.I always get some souvenirs and local food for my colleagues.
(Text 9)

W: How are you going to raise money for the summer camp? (11) We’ve only got

the beach…
M: I’m going to make lemonade and sell it to people driving by in front of my
house. (12)
W: Good idea!
M: I did it last summer and made some good money. All I need is a table,
lemonade, and some cups. Everyone stops when it’s hot outside! What are you
going to do for extra money?
W: Well, I think I’ll set up a car wash near school with my friends. (13) We
did it to raise money for our soccer team, and we made a lot of money in a

before. It never snowed when I lived in New Orleans. I didn’t think it would
here in Memphis, either. (14)
W: Really? Yes, we get some snow every winter. It’s great. There are so many
fun things we can do. We could make a snowman or have a snowball fight. Maybe
our moms will even let us go skiing in our front yards!
M: I’ll make a snowman with you, but I don’t know if I want to ski in the
front yard — that sounds dangerous! (15) What about cars in the street?
W: There won’t be any cars driving down the road if it’s covered in snow!
They would slide everywhere.
M: Oh, I didn’t think of that. You sure know a lot about the snow…more than
most people here.
W: Well, I spent my childhood in Boston, so I’ve been around a whole lot of
it in my life! (16)

WHolland isn't like other places in Europe. In Amsterdam, you can take boats around the
city's canals and ride bikes everywhere else. There are also many famous museums there, and the
forests and beaches are only a couple of hours away by train.
MWell, that does sound nice.I do really intend to take a boat to visit the city. But I'm sure it's
expensive to get there from here.
WActually there are some amazing deals on flights to Europe right now. They really want to
encourage tourists to go there.
MLet's go online and see how much it will cost.If we can find a good deal, we should buy
our tickets and start planning right now.

(W) People always want to be popular. But if you are a high school student, and if you have
watched John Hughes' movie, you will know — something is more important than being popular.
Teresa is a high school student from America.Three years ago, she first discovered
Myspace, a social networking website. She spent hours a day finding cool pictures and music to
make her page look more beautiful. And for a long time, she competed with her friends to see who
had the most friends or most-visited page.
However, the more Teresa used the website, the less she was interested in only being
popular. She started using her time talking with friends, and going more deeply into her personal
interests. As a beginner in taking pictures, she put her best pictures on the site and looked for
advice from good photographers. At the same time, she began to get in touch with the students of
the colleges she wanted to go to.And she even began putting some of her own creative writing on
the website and would ask for advice on homework from her friends.I have more fun in my
life,” Teresa says.
