Summer Courses 2009 San Diego Seaside College is offering one and two-week English

summer courses for high school students from all over the world who want to improve their

English．Classes are offered at five levels，from basic to advanced．Students will be tested when

they arrive and placed in the level appropriate to their language ability．Each class has a maximum

of 14 students．

The full payment must be received before the beginning of the courses．

We provide housing，including breakfast & dinner，7 days a week．

Single room：250 per week

Twin room：160 per person，per week．You should reserve your accommodations before May

15 and all the accommodation fees must be paid in full before June 15．

.Ancient Chinese folk paintings and many other art styles have been passed down from

generation to generation， and are still practised in different parts of China． Here's a look at four

unique Chinese folk art forms．

Chinese Opera （戏剧） is the traditional form of Chinese drama． According to incomplete

statistics， in China's various ethnic regions there are about more than 360 kinds of operas． The

most famous ones include Peking Opera， Kunqu Opera， Yueju Opera， Yuju Opera， Sichuan

Opera， Fujian Opera， Hebei opera， Huangmei Opera arid so on， in total more than 50，

among which Peking Opera is the most popular in China．

Shadow Play （皮影戏） dates back to Western Han Dynasty in Shaanxi more than 1000 years

ago， The moving figures， usually carved out from leather， are operated by folk artists，

accompanied by music and singing． It is the world's first dubbed （配音的） motion picture art

form， thus considered the "ancestor" of modem film． Today this art form is still popular in

northern China．

Paper-cutting （剪纸） is one of the most popular traditional decorative arts in China with a

long history． Paper-cutting can be seen across China and it has even developed into different local

genres （流派）．They are usually used to decorate gates and windows during festivals．

The Kite was invented by Chinese people． According to legend the earliest kite in China was

a wooden bird by Mo Di in the Eastern Zhou dynasty． Later his student Lu Ban improved the tech

and used bamboo as material to make a kite． Today， various kite-flying activities can be found in

different regions of China． Shandong Weifang Kite Festival is held every year and attracts lots of

kite lovers and travelers．

.When we were very small, we realized that having friends was important. Some of us even

had imaginary(想象中的)friends. The need for friends continued as we grew into our teens. Friends

played a big part in forming our personalities(性格). As adults,it is still important for us to have

friends.

True friends are people who like us though we made mistakes and who listen to us and tell us

the truth. Friends support our decisions and tell us when we’re foolish. They laugh with us and share

our sadness. They are our partners and share interests with us. They stimulate us when we are

feeling down. They are people we aren’t afraid of telling our secret wishes to or what is really on our

minds.

Friends are our supporters. When you can depend on friends, you feel safe and warm. Friends

offer acceptance and emotional(情感的)support. At times, they also help with our everyday lives,

cooking a meal, doing chores, or giving us a lift when we need one. Friends also are there to offer

advice, an ear to listen, or a shoulder to cry on.

Friends also help us reduce stress. Not only do they listen to us when we feel stressed, but they

also discuss what is stressing us. Sharing interests and doing activities with friends help us forget

about problems at work or at home. For a short time, we can lose ourselves in a pleasant activity and

perhaps laugh and breathe more easily.

.Cheating can happen in a lot of different ways．When people cheat，it's not fair to other

people，like the kids who studied for the test or who were the true winners of a game．

Many people like the action of cheating．It makes difficult things seem easy，like getting all

the right answers on the test．But it doesn't solve the problem of not knowing the material and it

won't help on the next test-unless the person cheats again．

Some people lose respect for cheaters and think less of them．The cheaters themselves may feel

bad because they know they are not really earning that good grade．And，if they get caught

cheating，they will be in trouble at school，and maybe at home，too．

Some kids cheat because they're busy or lazy and they want to get good grades without spending

the time studying．Other kids might feel like they can't pass the test without cheating．Even when

there seems to be a"good reason"for cheating，cheating isn't a good idea．

If you were sick or upset about something the night before and couldn't study，it would be

better to talk with the teacher about this．And if you don't have enough time to study for a test

because of swim practice，you need to talk with your parents about how to balance swimming and

school．

A kid who thinks cheating is the only way to pass a test needs to talk with the teacher and his or

her parents so they can find some solutions together．Talking about these problems and working

them out will feel better than cheating．
