Dear Mr Wang,
Could I ask for two weeks’ sick leave from April 15th to April 28th? Recently, I haven’t been
feeling well. Yesterday I ran a fever with red spots on the skin. Consulting the doctor, I found I got
chickenpox, an infectious illness. To prevent the disease from spreading, I have to be separated
from others.
As to the lessons to be missed during my absence, I’ll make them up by learning by myself at
home.

Green realized it was an emergency. Mary might faint at any time. If she couldn’t receive
timely help, she would suffer severe brain damage, or even die, which would definitely scare her

W: What was the first place you opened?
M: I rented a cheap place near the university, and I started selling lunches to the students. The
place was always crowded at lunch times. So, one day I sold it. With that money, I opened a much
bigger place downtown.

M: My mother and father will be here on Friday.
W: Yeah...
M: What’s the matter? Don’t you like them?
W: Sure I do, but I don’t like them smoking in the house.
M: They’re just here for the weekend. It’s not a problem, is it?
W: Second-hand smoke is a big problem around here. It’s dangerous — especially for the baby.
M: I know what you mean. But what can we do?
W: We can ask them to smoke outside.
M: I guess you’re right.
