(Text 1)
M: I’m arranging a meeting to discuss our prices. Is the 20th any good for you?
W: Sorry no. I can’t do that or the following day. What about the 22nd?
M: It’ll have to be. We need to announce the new prices before the 23rd.
(Text 2)
M: Did you see the game last night, Jill?
W: No! I spent the whole night studying for exams.
M: Why don’t you come to my house for a party after your exams? That’s on Sunday.
W: Great.
(Text 3)
M: Another one of the letters I mailed last week has been returned. And I’m sure the name and the
address are correct.
W: Didn’t you realize the airmail rates went up a month ago?
(Text 4)
W: Wow! Your dad did a great job! He made the oldest bike in town look new. People may think
your bike is more expensive than mine.
M: You know it goes faster than your bike now.
W: I don’t think so. Let’s race and see.
(Text 5)
M: Hey, Mary. The color of your dress really suits you. You take an interest in fashion, don’t you?
W: Well, a bit, you know.
M: There’s a film on all about the fashion world. It’s had some great reviews. Do you fancy seeing
it tonight?
W: Great. Thanks Mike.
(Text 6)
W: Mr. Fredriks, I’m really sorry but it seems the order is going to be late.
M: Late? What...
W: It’s just that something went wrong with the computer system last week and some of the orders
were lost.
M: Lost?! What...
W: We’ve now recovered them and we’re working very hard to complete them. So ... we hope to
have your order delivered next week. We are very grateful for your patience and to show you
just how grateful we are, we’d like to offer you a five percent discount on the whole shipment.
M: That’s OK. I suppose there is no other choice.
(Text 7)
M: So what did you think of this last candidate?
W: I don’t know ... she’s well-qualified, of course, but some of the others had better university
results.
M: True, and they have more experience as well. She’s only had one job so far. But she seemed
more motivated than most of the others.
W:1 agree. She sounded very enthusiastic. You know, willing to learn everything on the job, and
so on.
M: And perhaps that’s what we need right now.
W: You’re right. Let’s go for her, then.
(Text 8)
M: So you have all your meals in the school canteen?
W: Well, just lunch and supper. As for breakfast, I usually eat at the food stand near our dorm.
What about you?
M: Well, as you know, I stay with my parents, so I have breakfast at home. And I have lunch in the
school canteen. By the way, how do you like the food served in the canteen?
W: Just so-so. I feel the food in the canteen is a bit too sweet. As a matter of fact, I miss so much
the food prepared by my mom.
M: Speaking of food, what do you like best?
W: I like chicken and fish, and I like all kinds of vegetables. How about you?
M: 1 prefer beef and pork, and also seafood. I don’t like vegetables very much. But I like fruit,
especially watermelons.
W: I like apples and bananas more than any other fruit. What about chocolate?
M: Oh, that’s my favorite.
W: Really? Me too.
(Text 9)
W: Where are you going with that carload of things?
M: I’m off to the recycling center in town, near the train station.
W: It’s a lot of trouble, isn’t it, sorting out your rubbish and putting it into the different places?
M: Not really. I sort it out as 1 throw it. I have a green box for plastic, and a black box for paper
and a blue one for glass. You know, bottles and things.
W: I don’t know why you bother. Nothing will change. People will still throw rubbish and
anyway, I don’t think that enough people recycle so it won’t make any difference in the end.
M: If everybody thought like you, nothing would change. But people are becoming more aware of
the damage we have done to the planet. Most people, who understand that recycling works,
want to help. Even my mom has started recycling, which is amazing!
W: I guess I might try it. I’m going to start by buying a reusable bag from the supermarket now, so
I don’t use plastic ones.
M: That’s more like it! Come on, get in!
(Text 10)
