上海市上海民办南模中学2022-2023学年高三下学期3月测评英语试题 含答案
II. Grammar and Vocabulary
Section A
Directions: After reading the passage below, fill in the blanks to make the passages coherent and
grammatically correct. For the blanks with a given word, fill in each blank with the proper form of
the given word; for the other blanks, use one word that best fits each blank.
Science journals ban listing of ChatGPT as co-author on papers
The publishers of thousands of scientific journals have banned or restricted contributors' use
of an advanced AI-driven chatbot amid the concerns (21) _________ it could pepper academic
literature with flawed and even fabricated research.
ChatGPT, a fluent but flaky chatbot developed by OpenAI in California, has impressed or
distressed more than a million human users by rattling out poems, short stories, essays and even
personal advice since its launch in November.
(22) _________ the chatbot has proved a huge source of fun - its take on how to free a peanut
butter sandwich from a VCR, in the style of the King James Bible, is one notable hit - the program
can also produce fake scientific abstracts that are convincing enough to fool human reviewers.
ChatGPT's more legitimate uses in article preparation have already led to it (23) _________
(credit) as a co-author on a handful or papers.
The sudden arrival of ChatGPT has promoted a scramble published to respond. On Thursday,
Holden Thorp, the editor-in-chief of the leading US journal Science, announced an updated
editorial policy, banning the use of text from ChatGPT and clarifying that the program could not
be listed as an author.
"Given the frenzy that has built up around this, it's a good idea to make it absolutely explicit
that we will not permit ChatGPT to be an author or to have its text (24) _________ (use) in
papers," Thorp said.
Leading scientific journals require authors to sign a form declaring that they are accountable
(25) _________ their contribution to the work. Since ChatGPT cannot do this, it cannot be an
author, Thorp says.
But even using ChatGPT in the preparation of a paper is problematic, he believes. ChatGPT
makes plenty of errors, which could find (26) _________ way into the literature, he says, and if
scientists come (27) _________ (rely) on AI programs to prepare literature reviews or summarise
their findings, the proper context of the work and the deep scrutiny that results deserve could be
lost. "That is the opposite direction of (28) _________ we need to go," he said.
Other publishers have made similar changes. On Tuesday, Springer-Nature, which publishes
nearly 3,000 journals, updated its guidelines to state that ChatGPT cannot be listed as an author.
But the publisher has not banned ChatGPT outright. The tool, and others like it, can still be used in
the preparation of papers, provided full details (29) _________ (reveal) in the manuscript.
Elsevier, which publishes about 2,800 journals, including Cell and the Lancet, has taken a
similar stance to Springer-Nature, (30) _________ guidelines allow the use of AI tools to improve
the readability and language of the research article, but not to replace key tasks that should be
done by the authors, such as interpreting data or drawing scientific conclusions.
Section B
Directions: Fill in each blank with a proper word chosen from the box. Each word can only be
used once. Note that there is one word more than you need.
A. distribution B. sustained C. scale D. unfolding E. chaos F. trials
G. subscriptions H. intellectual I. fared J. share K. rocking
At 100, the mouse can still roar. But it faces a new kind of rival
"Why do we have to grow up?" Walt Disney once wondered. As it launches its centenary
celebrations on January 27th, the Walt Disney Company has (31) _________ its appeal to the
young and young-at-heart. This year Hollywood's biggest studio will invest more in original
content than any other firm. It dominates the global box office, with four of last year's ten biggest
hits, and has more streaming (32) _________ than anyone else. Its (33) _________ property is
turned into merchandise ranging from lunchboxes to lightsabers, and exploited in theme parks that
are churning out healthy profits even as covid-19 lingers. More than just a business, Disney is
perhaps the most successful culture factory the world has ever known.
So the change (34) _________ the company today has played a significant role far beyond its
empire. Uncertainty about the future profitability of Disney's enormous entertainment portfolio
has caused a roller-coaster ride in its (35) _________ price. It threw out its chief executive in
November and will soon replace its chairman. It also faces a rebellion from an activist investment
firm that wants a board seat in what could turn into the biggest face-off since Michael Eisner, a
previous CEO, was forced out in 2005. Disney's (36) _________ are not just a boardroom drama.
Similar crises are (37) _________ at other leading culture factories, from Warner Bros to Netflix.
The reason is a technological revolution that is turning Hollywood upside down.
Those who have (38) _________ best at a shrinking box office are the owners of films that
are already popular. As people visit cinemas less often and competition intensifies, studios have
pumped money into films people will turn out to see even when they go only three or four times a
year. America's ten biggest films last year were all sequels or parts of a franchise; Disney's
upcoming slate includes an 80-year-old Harrison Ford returning for a fifth outing as Indiana Jones.
It has not been a golden age for cinema, but for those at the top it has been a profitable one.
Now technology is shaking things up again. Online (39) _________ has drawn tech firms that
make the hardware and software used for streaming. Silicon Valley is of a different (40)
_________ from Tinseltown (Amazon's growing advertising business is already three times bigger
than Disney's) and its moguls have no need to make money from streaming, which they see as an
add-on to their main business. The more fine content these new producers make and sell below
cost, the greater the risk that older studios will fall from the top tier of media into the perilous
middle.
III. Reading Comprehensions
Section A
Directions: For each blank in the following passage, there are four words or phrases marked A, B,
C and D. Fill in each blank with the word or phrase that best fits the context.
When Harry told me that he was leaving the company, one of the first things he said to me
was that he didn't like emotional goodbyes. I have decided to take him at his word. Everything you
will hear my say tonight is straight-forward and (41) _________, just like the man himself.
Harry has been in the finance department for seven years. In that time, he has not done
anything remotely (42) _________. I asked several people if they had amusing stories about him,
and the best they could come up with is that he once accidentally changed a formula in the annual
budget spreadsheet. Since the (43) _________ was quickly spotted and fixed, it had no impact at
all.
Will Harry be (44) _________? Not at all, though for reasons that he may not fully grasp.
This is an evening in which the person who is leaving receives presents (as well as a card from
people whose names you don't recognize but who just loved working with you). But the (45)
_________ goes both ways. The leavers have a parting gift of their own to present: a convenient
scapegoat.
When someone dies, the convention is not to speak ill of the (46) _________. When an
employee exits a company, it's the opposite. Things that don't work as well as they should can be
laid at the door of someone who won't (47) _________. Frustrations that have been suppressed
can finally be blamed on someone. When we speak of you, we will say things like "Harry had
many strengths but ...", and we will (48) _________ ourselves that you held us back a bit. This
will not be true, but it will be (49) _________. I'd like to take this opportunity to tell you that we
are grateful for this (50) _________ act of service, which can last for as long as a year after
someone has actually left the building. After that, memories tend to fade. I wish I could promise
you that you are part of company folklore, or that your role in banning plastic straws from the
office will ring through the ages. (51) _________, the only guarantee I can give is that no one here
will ever read your exit-interview notes.
This may all seem a little (52) _________. You have spent many years at the company, and
yet will probably (53) _________. But in spite of that, you should still feel (54) _________ in
your time here. To have done your work well and to leave at a time of your choosing are
achievements that are beyond most people. So please raise your glasses to Harry. He has been an
excellent colleague and won't really be (55) _________ in the end.
