entered our kitchen and garage. Much to our relief, thanks to Rhubarb, the thief stole nothing. I

called the police to report the break-in. I also told them nothing had been taken, but they sent a

police officer over to talk with us anyway. In fact, recently many local homes had been broken in

on the weekend. Most people’s wallets and purses had been stolen.

My purse was right next to the door. However, Rhubarb had scared the thief away before he

or she could steal it. When the police officer left, he said we should reward Rhubarb with a big

steak dinner. Rhubarb lived to be almost 12 years old, but that night was the only time she barked

in her entire life. Fortunately, she never saw the need to warn us of any other danger. We were

very thankful to Rhubarb. We loved her like a member of the family.
