Benjamin Franklin was born in 1706. He was one of 17 children in his family and was
the 10th child. (17) Benjamin's father was a soap maker and he wanted Benjamin to have the
same job that he had. Benjamin wanted a different life, though. So he decided to leave home
and find a job as a printer for newspapers and books. (18) Benjamin took a boat to New York,
but he couldn't find a job there. He then walked to New Jersey, had the same troubles, and
then finally ended up taking a boat to Philadelphia. At last, he found a job there and even
saved enough money to buy his own newspapers. (19) He printed many famous writings in
his life, but eventually he retired to become an inventor. He invented many things such as
musical instruments, types of glasses for seeing and a special house heater that was named
after him. All of this happened before he became famous for his experiment with a kite and
