When someone asks me what my goals are for the coming year, I don’t usually know how to
reply. Of course I, as most people do, want to see an improvement in my grades. This year,
however, I’m hoping for something different.
Through the course of my school life, I’ve gradually developed a new understanding of the
word “prioritization (优先次序)”. The first thing I wish to get in Senior 1 is the ability to manage
my time better. I’ll surely become busier with the coming semester(学期), and proper organization
is important. From school clubs to academic competitions, everything should be set up in a way
that doesn’t influence my health, which leads me to my second goal.
My mother has always told me put my health first, so in the future, I hope to both physically
and mentally healthy. A person can’t study without having the energy to do so. In order to stay
energetic, they must put their health first, no matter how busy they are, or how much work they
have to complete.
And finally, I hope that I won’t be discouraged(泄气的) by my failure and never give up on
my dreams. I hope that I’ll have the courage to try new activities and clubs. I believe my final goal
can apply to every student around the world. We should all respect one another’s likes and
dislikes, and concentrate on each other’s advantages, not our disadvantages. Everyone should try
to take part in all of life’s opportunities(机会).
Albert Einstein once said, “Life is like riding a bicycle. To keep your balance( 平衡 ), you
must keep moving.” In my case, it’s the other way around. In order to keep moving, I must keep
my balance—the balance between studies and activities, efficiency(效率) and procrastination (拖
延症), academics and health, passions and dislikes. The new journey is going to be a hard one, but
if I set these goals, I believe I will make it through to the end.
24. During this school year, what does the author hopes to do?
A.Concentrate on improving her overall grades. B. Join as many school clubs as possible.

A. Not be afraid of failing. B. Always put their studies first.
C. Only do what they're good at. D. Make different kinds of friends.
26. What does the underlined word in the last paragraph mean?
A. A strong feeling of dislike B. A strong feeling of love
C. A strong feeling of anger D. A strong feeling of joy
27. What does the author plan to do?
A. Show what she likes about high school life.
B. Stress(强调) the importance of health to students.
C. Show how to balance our studies and activities.
D. Share her goals for the coming high school year.

Do you like Chinese traditional painting and dance? They are two important parts of the
traditional Chinese art. But what about when they meet each other?
This year, a dance drama titled Poetic Dance: The Journey of a Legendary Landscape
Painting (《只此青绿》) was staged on CCTV’s Spring Festival Gala and became popular.
According to CCTV, this poetic dance program was inspired by the 900-year-old Chinese
painting A Panorama of Rivers and Mountains ( 《 千里江 山图》 ). Created by Song Dynasty
painter Wang Ximeng at about 18, the painting is amazing in its sweeping size, rich coloration and
the expressive details, reported CCTV. It shows a Chinese blue-green landscape: “mountains and
groupings of infinite (无限的) rise and fall between cloudless sky and rippling (涟漪的) water”.
When the dancers moved elegantly(优美地), audiences seemed to be looking at the moving
mountains and rivers. “It brings me a pure experience of beauty. It is not only a drama but also an
exhibition. Vast mountains and rivers are coming to life!” Internet user Mo Weisha wrote in a
review. “More than a thousand years later, green mountains and rivers still impress people as they
did long ago.” Some people even decided to watch the dance again when it was staged in the
theaters later. In fact, in recent years, more and more modern shows feature Chinese traditional
culture and have received warm welcome. As for the reason, it is due to people’s great love for
traditional culture.
“The younger generations have grown up with a more open mind. They accept Chinese
culture and are proud of it.” Yao Wei, director of Henan TV Station’s Innovation Center, told
China Daily.

A new study has found that all dogs have different personalities—even dogs of the same
breed (品种).
Elinor Karlsson studies genetics(基因学) at the University of Massachusetts. She co-wrote a
report about the study, which appeared recently in the publication Science.
Karlsson said, “Every dog really is an individual(个体),” noting that there is “a huge amount
of difference” even between dogs that look the same.
At a New York dog park, dog owners talked about the different personalities of their pets.
Elizabeth Kelly owns an English springer spaniel. She called her dog friendly, but also “kind of
the queen bee.” In other words, her dog likes to act like it is in charge of(管理) other dogs. Suly
described her yellow Labrador as “calm, lazy and shy.”
The idea of dog breeds is quite recent. Around 160 years ago, humans began to breed dogs to
have certain physical qualities, such as fur, color and ear shape.
Karlsson said her aim was to learn how much a dog’s breed affects their behavior. The
answer? Breed does not decide an individual dog’s personality.
Karlsson’s team gathered information from 18,000 dog owners and studied the genetic code
of over 2,000 dogs. The researchers found that some qualities are based on genetics. However, it is
not sure that two dogs of the same breed will act in the same way.
For example, huskies and beagles, may be more likely to howl—or make a long, loud
barking(狗叫) sound. But many of these dogs do not howl, as owner observations(观察) showed.
32. What do we know about Karlsson’s report?
A. She wrote it by herself. B. It was published in Science.
C. She finished it after graduation. D. It is of little value to her study.
33. What does the underlined “the queen bee” in paragraph 4 probably mean?
A. A bee that seems busy. B. A dog whose name is Queen.
C. A bee that serves the whole group. D. A dog acting as if it is the most important.
34. What is the purpose of Elinor Karlsson’s study?
A. To help dog owners learn about their dogs better.
B. To prove dog breeds influence their personalities.
C. To study the tie between dog breeds and behaviors.
D. To show different dogs have different personalities.
35. What does the author want to tell us in the last paragraph?
A. All the dogs can make a long, loud barking.
B. Dogs of the same breed can behave differently.
C. Dogs’ owners may observe their pets carelessly.
D. Huskies and beagles are not the same dog breed.
