Nick: I always wake up in the morning but end up turning off my alarm clock and sleeping
for another 30 minutes. That makes me late for school!
Mr. Smith: It's normal for us to be slow to wake up. Start by moving your alarm clock
away from your bed, so you have to get up to turn it off. Also, you have got to make sure you're
getting enough sleep. What's more, try drinking some water the moment you open your eyes in
the morning.
Judy: This year, I got the teacher I didn't want at school. Even worse, my best friend is in
a different class!
Mr. Smith: Succeed with a teacher by knowing what actions are most important to that
teacher (such as raising your hand) and then doing them. That might not sound fun, but it's a
good skill. As for your friend, make plans to see her at break or outside of school. Your
friendship can still be strong.
Jimmy: I always race to finish tests, but sometimes that makes me miss some questions.
Mr. Smith: It's wise to realize that racing to finish tests isn't actually winning you
anything. To change your ways, you can make yourself slow down and avoid making mistakes.
You can also take time to carefully check over each question on a test before you hand it in.
Sandy: Sisters Day is a tradition my sister and I started, with cards and everything. But
now she's older and says Sisters Day is boring.
Mr. Smith: How about simply updating your tradition? Pick a moment and say, “I know
Sisters Day is boring to you, but it means a lot to me. Can we find a way to make it more fun?”
Then come up with a new tradition that you'll both enjoy.

The world is full of tea drinkers. For many, they simply enjoy the taste. But new research
suggests tea might help those who drink it live longer than those who do not. Past studies in China
and Japan have suggested several health benefits of green tea. Now, scientists say black tea may
show similar benefits.
Scientists examined years of data gathered about the tea-drinking behavior of almost 500,000
adults in Britain. The study found that high tea intake (摄取量) — two or more cups a day —
was linked to a moderate benefit: a 9 to 13 percent lower risk of death from any cause than non-
tea drinkers. Scientists say the lowered risk of death held true for study subjects with heart disease.
However, researchers said there was no clear finding in connection with deaths from cancer.
Tea contains various elements, including polyphenols(多酚). Polyphenols are considered
responsible for the health benefits that have traditionally been linked to tea, especially green tea.
Green tea is reported to alleviate digestive problems and head pain. It has also been studied for
possible protective effects against heart disease and cancer.
However, the study of British tea drinkers was based on observing people's behaviors and
health. This kind of methodology cannot prove cause and effect. The study does not offer enough
evidence to advise people to change their tea behaviors. "If you drink one cup a day already, I
think that is good," said Inoue-Choi, who led the study.
5. What does the new study mainly focus on?
A.The effects of tea on health.
B.The popularity of tea culture.
C.The harmful substances in tea.
D.The right amount of tea intake.
6. According to the study, people with high tea intake tend to .
A.stay focused B.develop cancer
C.get heart disease D.have a lower risk of death
7. What does the underlined word "alleviate" in paragraph 3 probably mean?
A.Cause. B.Worsen. C.Relieve. D.Hide.
8. What does the author intend to do in the last paragraph?
A.To provide advice on how to drink tea.
B.To point out the possible limitations of the study.
C.To stress the significance of the research findings.
D.To offer supporting evidence for the research results

Feeling stressed is a common experience for everyone. When you feel stressed, there are
things you can do to help yourself through it.
One way to address stress is by talking about the problem with a trusted adult or friend.
Keeping a problem to yourself can add to your stress, so it’s good to open up to someone you
trust.
Developing an “I’ve got this” attitude can also be helpful when facing stressful situations.
Many people feel anxious or nervous before important events such as tests or tryouts. You can use
physical (身体的) movements like shaking out your arms to channel ( ) some of the stress
energy. Remind yourself that you have the ability to handle the situation, take a deep breath, and
give it your best try.
