M: It’s almost Christmas! I’m so excited. What are you getting this year?
W: I asked my mom for a new bike. How about you?
M: My parents had planned to buy an Apple Watch for me, but this morning they decided to take me
to ski.

W: I can’t stand to be away from Fifi for two weeks. Can’t we bring her along?
M: You know that animals are not allowed on the plane. We’ve left toys and food for her. I’m sure
Mrs. Smith will take good care of her.

W: Excuse me, did anybody find a black umbrella after the last show? I left it under my chair.
M: As a matter of fact, we did. Check at the ticket counter. That’s where we turn in the
lost-and-found items.

W: Do you want to take a Thai cooking class with me, Olaf?
M: Is it expensive?
W: Not really. It only costs $15 each class, and you get to eat the food afterwards.
M: That’s about the same price of a meal. Not bad.

M: Yes, I understand. I’ll try to talk to them.

M: Life moves so fast now. When I was a young man, it was much more relaxing.
W: I know! People today are always driving around, talking on the phone, and sitting at their
computers. It’s not interesting, right?
M: Yeah, even boring. When I was young, I often sat down and played cards or went fishing when I
had extra time. People all enjoyed the simple things in life.
W: Exactly! Now they play games on their computers with a person they can’t even see!
M: It’s no wonder that people are so stressed out.
W: I know. These young people need to slow down and enjoy their lives.
M: They should go back to the old days, when children just played outside instead of taking music
lessons and going to soccer practice all the time. I seldom see my grandchildren!
W: Er, well, want to play a game of cards?
M: Sure. I’ve got all afternoon.

W: I have to travel to New York in two days, and I am so nervous. I’ve never flown before.
M: Don’t worry. If you’re lucky, your flight will be on time and you will get a seat by the window.
W: I hope it isn’t delayed. I have connecting flights in Denver and then Boston before I arrive in
New York.
M: I see.What about your seat?

M: Everyone walking up and down the aisle will hit your arm accidentally. It’s annoying. If you’re
by the window, you can get some peace,at least.

M: However, the aisle isn’t as bad as a middle seat, though. When you’re stuck in the middle, you
usually have one person sleeping on your shoulder, sometimes both! I had such a terrible experience
this summer.
W: I’m not sure if I’m ready to be so close to all of these strangers!
