Hobbies are activities, which we do in our free time. There are so many kinds of

hobbies one can choose for his or her own. Some hobbies are really expensive, and

some are even dangerous.

The most popular hobbies in our country are as follows:

Collecting hobbies We can collect a lot of things. Usually people collect the

stamps, postcards or coins. Some people collect unusual things like old cars, old

motorbikes or other interesting things, which could be very expensive.

Art hobbies Going to the theatre, concert（音乐会）, opera; playing some

instrument（the most popular instrument is guitar）; painting, writing, poetry. There

are many clubs—such as singing, dancing, etc.

Sports games Everybody does some sport activities—sport can keep us fit.

Many students are members of a sports club—basketball, volleyball or swimming.

The other popular hobby is watching TV or a video, playing computer or video

games, but it is not so good for your eyes and your mind. Many people here like to

spend their free time reading books, magazines and newspapers. Some people like

listening to music better. Going out can be very expensive now.

Many students would like to make use of their hobbies in their future jobs, e.g.

working with computer, but it is not so easy. Hobbies are very important for

everybody. A man would be very poor without a hobby and would not be happy.

When he was a young boy, Patch Adams was very unhappy and he stayed in a

special hospital for many years.

When he left the hospital, Adams decided to become a doctor, so he went to a

medical( 医学 )school i n Virginia, USA. But when he was there, he did things in a

different way. He didn’t like the doctor’s white coats, so he wore shirts with flowers

on them. When he visited people who were ill, he tried to make them laugh. The

doctors at the medical school didn’t like Adams because he was too different.

Adams saw unhappy people, and he tried to help them. He spent a lot of time

with children in the hospital and often wore clown’s （小丑）clothes to make the

children laugh.

When he finished medical school and started to work as a doctor, Adams opened

a hospital of his own with some other doctors together. “I want a place with a

different way of working with patients(病人),” he said to his friends.

More and more people knew about Adams during the 1980s. and in 1988,

Universal Pictures( 环球影业 )made a film about his life. It was a great film. In the

film, Robin Williams said,“Adams is a really warm person. He believes that people

need a friendly doctor. I had fun playing him.”

Summer vacation means long days sleeping in or enjoying the summer sun. It is

quite true for students to enjoy a rest after a long and difficult year. But more and

more parents worry their children forgetting a lot of knowledge, so they send their

children to summer schools. They believe summer schools can help children go over

the knowledge that they have learned during the school year.

In summer schools, students may study in a more relaxing way and can come up

with interesting topics for discussion with their teachers. Usually, the number of

students in summer schools is small, so this gives them a good chance to connect with

other students and teachers better. If a student has failed a lesson, summer schools

may help him or her. Moreover, they are building their imagination （想象力）and

learning social skills.

On the other hand, summer schools also bring children some problems. It takes

children the whole summer vacation to learn without playing. That is too long. As a

result, they may not have enough interest in school during the coming year.

For many students, taking summer classes can be tiring. Teachers teach the

subjects too quickly, which only harms the whole education of students. Summer

schools are usually expensive. They usually offer only a few subjects. So many

students have to take classes that they don't like.

A summer school can be a good chance for students who need it, but it can be

difficult for students who need a rest. So parents can decide if a summer school is

suitable for their children.

Red ear turtles

30℃. When it is below 11℃, they hibernate(冬眠).

African clawed frog

African clawed frogs are lovely pets. They are very small. You sometimes can't

see them if they hide in the water. In fact, they always stay in water. Leaving water

can make them die(死亡). They don't have tongues(舌头). They use their claws to get

food. Small fish and vegetables are their favorite.

Betta fish

The betta fish is from the water of Southeast Asia. They come in many kinds

colors and look very beautiful. Betta fish often stay near the surface( 表面 ) of the

water to get air. They like warm water. A beta fish can be your friend for more than
