"Without music, life would be a mistake," famous German philosopher (哲学家) Fridrich Nietzsche said over

a century ago. Music is a big part of our lives. But in recent years, some US schools have cut music classes to

control budgets (预算).

For example, Chicago public schools hurt arts education when it fired(解雇) over 1,000 teachers. Among them, 10

percent of the teachers taught art or music, according to The Washington Times. In fact, this is not just a problem in

the US. In other countries, such as China and the UK, music classes are not thought to be as important as ones like

science, math and history. That's partly because music is not seen as a very important life skill, and it isn't tested.

Many students are busy with schoolwork, so parents and students choose to focus on subjects that are tested more

often.

However, learning music is beneficial in many ways.

When playing music, you need different abilities to work together. It is not as simple as it looks, according to

Kenneth Guilmartin of Music Together, an early childhood music development program. For example, when

playing the piano, people see music notes and decode ( 解码) them in their brains. They also use their fingers to

make sounds. You need to deal with all these things at the same time.

Music has a special connection with science as well. You can see that many scientists are good at playing music:

Einstein played the violin, and German physicist Max Planck was talented in playing the piano.

"No. He talks to no one except the gypsies. They are poor people who travel from place to place. A band of

gypsies is staying on our land right now."

"Are you and your sister afraid of the gypsies?"

"My dear Mr. Holmes. You are making me so sad. My sister is dead. That is why I am standing here in this

room."

For two long years I lived the life of a slave ． I dreamt to be free day and night but it was never possible ．

My master liked to go fishing in a little boat and he always took me with him ． A man called Moely and a young

boy called Xury also went with us．

One day my master said to us "Some of my friends want to go fishing tomorrow ． Get the boat ready．" So

we put a lot of food and drink on the boat and the next morning we waited for my master and his friends ． But

when my master arrived， he was alone． "My friends don't want to go fishing today" he said to me， "But you go

with Moely and the boy and catch some fish for our supper tonight ．" "Yes， master " I answered quietly but

inside I was excited， my chance came!

We took the boat out to sea ． For a time we fished quietly and then I moved carefully behind Moely and

knocked him into the water ． "Swim!" I cried ． My master liked to shoot sea birds so there were guns on the

boat． Quickly I took one of these guns． "Go back to the shore， or I'll shoot you through the head!" So Moely

turned and swam back to the shore as quickly as he could． Xury looked at me with his mouth open because I had
