三、重点语法鉴赏

过去进行时(二)

由上一模块我们已经知道，过去进行时表示过去某一时刻或时段正在进行或持续的动作。过去进行时还

可以和 when，while 或as 引导的过去时间状语从句连用构成复合句。

1.when 所引导的时间状语从句既可以指时间点，也可指时间段；while 所引导的时间状语从句只指时间段。

因此，在 when 引导的时间状语从句中，动词可以是终止性动词，也可以是延续性动词；而在 while 引导的

从句中，动词必须是延续性动词。

eg：They arrived while we were having dinner.＝They arrived when we were having dinner.

我们正吃着晚饭时他们到了。

2.由when 引导的时间状语从句，如果主句用过去进行时，从句应该用一般过去时，表示一个动作正在进行

的时候，另一个动作(突然)发生了，强调后一动作发生的突然性。

eg：We were talking when the teacher came in.我们正在说话，(突然)老师进来了。

While we were talking，the teacher came in.当我们正在说话的时候，老师进来了。(该句只表示老师

进来的事实，不强调突然性)

3.当从句和主句的动作都是延续性的或同时发生时，即两句都用过去进行时的时候多用 while 引导。

eg：They were singing while we were dancing.他们在唱歌，我们在跳舞。

一、根据句意，用 when 或 while 填空。

1.The girl was eating lunch the doorbell rang.

2.I was sleeping last night an accident happened.

3. I was sleeping last night，an accident happened.

4.I was walking down the street I saw him.

四、重点知识鉴赏

1. appear 的用法

(1)appear 是不及物动词,后不能接宾语,也不能用于被动语态。

如正: Soon the stars appeared in the sky.不久天空中出现了星星。

Soon the stars were appeared in the sky.

Soon the sky appeared the stars.

(2)appear,seem 与look(似乎;好像)

三者均为连系动词,意为“似乎;好像;显得。其后均可接形容词名词不定作表语。

如: He looks/seems/appears honest.他似乎很诚实。

He looks/seems/appears an honest man.他似乎是一个诚实的人。

He looks/seems/appears to be honest.他似乎很诚实。

He looks/seems/appears to be an honest man.他似乎是一个诚实的人。

look,seem 之后可以接介词like,但 appear 之后不能。

如: He looks/seems like fool.他看起来像个大傻瓜

（3）在 there be 开头的句子里,可用 seem, appear,一般不用 look。

如: There seems/appears to be something the matter with her.她好像出了什么事似的。
