2. A detective is someone who looks for clues to something important.
(1) detective n. “侦探” adj. “侦探的，”
(2) clue n. “线索，提示”

suspect n. 犯罪嫌疑人

take place 意为“发生,举行”
The Olympic Games take place every four years.
(2) 词组 at the scene of the crime 在犯罪现场, 如: Her fingerprints match those found at the scene of the crime.
(3) find out 的含义并区分 find; find out; look for; search for:
find “找到,发现”,表示一种有没有找到的结果
look for=search for=hunt for “寻找,找……”,侧重强调一种寻找的动作
find out “查出,找出”,表示分析,调查从而查明、得知。
(4) somewhere else 中 somewhere adv.某处,在某处。

as a result 的用法:
as a result 是一个习惯短语,意为“因此,结果”如:As a result, discussion was put off until the following
week.
as a result of as a result of 意为“因为,由于,作为……的结果”,用来作状语。
He was late as a result of(=because of) the heavy snow.

police 集体名词，意为“警察”，通常被视作复数，作主语时，谓语动词用复数形式。
The police have caught the thief.
enemy 可数名词， “敌人，仇人反对者”
She's a dangerous enemy to have.
Birds are the natural enemies of many insect pests.
7. However, according to the record, he was guilty of computer crimes in the past.
according to 根据…所说(所示);
be guilty of……犯……罪
8. “He was charged with breaking into several computer systems over the last year”said Detective Lu.
charge vt. “指控，控告”
be charged with sth/doing sth “被指控某事、做某事”
break 短语：
break into 突然闯入 break down 抛锚，出故障
break out （战争、灾难等）爆发 break in 打断
break the silence 打破寂静 break away 脱离出去
9. We suppose that the victim knew his murder.
suppose vt.“猜想，假定，料想”，后跟名词、代词或宾语从句。
Where do you suppose he has gone?
He supposed that he had left his umbrella on the bus.
