Despite usually being associated with the Chinese, the Lunar New Year is also celebrated in other countries. Here are several places in America to celebrate the Lunar New
Year.
New York City
New York City, which has one of the largest populations of ethnic(少Chinese people outside of Asia, is a great place to experience the Lunar New Year. There are
around 10 different Chinatowns in New York City. Visitors will find parades, performances and foods in most of these areas but some of the festival characteristics are unique to
the particular district.
San Francisco
San Francisco’s Lunar New Year celebrations are the longest runnings in America. They date back to the 1860s, during the “Gold Rush” period. Today, numerous events take
place around the Bay Area, but the headline is the massive Chinese New Year Parade that draws as many as 1 million viewers.
Washington DC
Washington DC has a historic Chinatown. There is a parade here with floats, firecrackers, dancers and music. The Smithsonian American Art Museum can host hands-on arts
and crafts events that feature performers invited from China. The Kennedy Center stages themed performances, including folk music and symphonies from China.
Chicago
Despite low temperatures in January and February, Chicago celebrates the Lunar New Year in a big way. There are two parades, usually held on different days of the same
weekend. One is in the city’s traditional Chinatown on the South Side, and the other takes place on Argyle Street. Asian culture is on full display during these parades, and other
Chicago communities also take part.

How you move and gesture says as much about you as what comes out of your mouth.
Jenny Smith, 34, an assistant vice-president at a bank in New York, was interviewing a large number of candidates (候选人) for a position which required a person with good
communication skills.
One candidate in particular stood out, but not in a good way. While she could have been very intelligent, her body language sent out very different messages. Her
handshake was more of a finger shake, and her eye contact was weak.
To Jenny, what the candidate said didn't matter because her body language said everything: she wasn't suitable for the position. The candidate may have been quite
appropriate, but she didn't manage to get that across. So our body language may not do us justice. But there are some signals which are very common and are worth a thousand
words.
For example, a handshake can say much more than "Hello, nice to meet you." The most important part of a handshake is palm-to-palm (掌对掌) contact. It's even more
important than how strong your handshake is. The palm-to-palm contact makes people seem honest: it seems to say "I am sincere (真诚的)." A weak handshake -when the palms
don't touch - makes you seem unfriendly, insincere.
But people sometimes use body language to give each other the wrong impression. Somebody who has a firm handshake may be pretending to be sincere, and somebody
with a weak handshake may just be a bit shy and nothing more.
Body language can also be overdone. While eye contact gives an impression of friendliness, too much eye contact or eye contact which is too intense () can make people
feel uncomfortable.
24. Why did the candidate fail to get the job?
A. She wasn't clever enough. B. Her body language was improper.
C. She said something wrong. D. Her attitude was bad.
25.What should you do when you shake someone's hand?
A. Hold his hand with great strength. B. Make frequent eye contact.
C. Make palm-to-palm contact. D. Say something sincere.
26. What can we learn about body language from paragraph 6
A.It is ignored by most people.
B. It is much more important than what you say.
C. It tells other people what you are really like.
D. It may give other people the false opinion.
27. What is the main purpose of the text?
A. To introduce body language to readers.
B.To show why handshakes are important
C. To help renders get a better job.
D. To explain what communications skills are.

Scientists are developing an app that may diagnose(诊断)what disease or condition a person has.
Researchers are recording millions of coughs using several apps. Then, they are training artificial intelligence AI to identify what is causing the person to have the
symptom, according to The Wall Street Journal. In the future, they hope the app can determine if a person has asthma, pneumonia or even COVID-19—and how severely ill the
patient is.
A cough occurs when something that irritates the airways stimulates the body’s nerves, which send a message to the brain. In response, the brain sends a signal to
muscles in the chest and abdomen to expelthe irritant using air from the lungs. Someone who has asthma will breathe with a whistling sound while a patient with
pneumonia will have a crackling sound in their lungs. Dr Peter Small explained that AI may be able to pick up patterns in the cough that humans are unable to detect by simply
listening. What’s more, he said to The Journal, “When a patient goes to the doctor, they can’t learn everything about the cough in one visit. Patients will come in and say: ‘I’ve
got a bad cough, ’ but are they coughing 10 times a day or 400 times a day? The app will be faster than a doctors visit because it can screen hundreds of patients in one day and
cheaper because people won’t have to pay to see a health care professional.”
The Journal notes that cough test apps will not be available to the general public soon because the AI is still being trained and because companies will have to address privacy
and data sharing concerns.
28. How does the app diagnose diseases?
A. By identifying one’s voice. B. By stimulating one’s nerves.
C. By examining one’s muscles. D. By listening to one’s cough.
29. What can we infer from the text?
A. Different diseases cause different coughs.
B. Doctors can pick up the cough patterns quickly.
C. Patients can detect how many times they cough per day.
D. The app will take the place of doctors in the near future.
30. What’s Dr Peter Small’s attitude towards the cough test app?
A. Doubtful, B. Reserved. C. Favorable. D. Unclear.
31. What do we know about the app according to the text?
A. It is widely used. B. It is being developed.
C. It has a low cost. D. It lets out privacy.

Most of us are afraid to fail. Our fear of failure isn't surprising. From an early age, we're surrounded by people who value perfection. Parents tell us to bring home A's.
Coaches teach us to go for the gold, not the silver or bronze. And on social media, people share only the coolest parts of their lives. Usually they keep their struggles to
themselves.
What's so bad about being afraid to fail? It might seem like a "win at everything" attitude would push you to succeed. In reality, it can seriously hold you back. For
example, many people get one bad grade on an algebra (代数) test and decide they're not smart enough for math.
According to experts, that's the wrong way to think. They say failing is good for you. It teaches you to stick with a task even when it gets hard. The ability to do this is
called grit (毅力).
To people with grit, failure is not a reason to give up. It's a chance to improve. There's one place where failure is surely valued: technology companies. To the leaders of
these companies, a failed App or website isn't a problem. It's a chance to build something better next time.
Tech leaders have even gathered for events called FailCons. At FailCons, they learn from ideas that didn't work. "Sometimes things just don't go as planned," says the
FailCons website. "But that doesn't mean you should stop trying."
That message got through to a man named Evan Williams. In 2005, he developed an App called Odeo. Not many people used it. It was a big disappointment. But Williams
wasn't upset. Instead, he learned from his mistakes and kept working hard. He showed grit. And a few years later, he helped create one of the biggest social media sites ever:
Twitter.
32. Why are people afraid to fail according to the text?
A. They believe failure is shameful.
B. Failure blocks their way to success.
C.Today's society puts a lot of pressure for success.
D. They do not know how to deal with failure.
33. What are people with grit most likely to do when they fail?
A. Seek help. B. Keep working hard.
C. Ignore failure. D. Try something new.
33. Why do tech leaders have FallCons?
A. To develop an App. B.To design a website.
