An elderly man used his senior card to enter the park in Beijing last month.
The city government has added a health code(健康码) into the card, which the elderly are skilled in using, so that those
without smart phones are able to enter the park conveniently.
Beijing will take more efforts to bridge the digital gap(数字鸿沟) faced by seniors and provide them with convenient
and smart life services, the city’s government worker said.
How to solve the difficulties elderly people have in health care services and daily life through smart devices (设备) was
a hot topic among law makers and political officers at their meetings this year.
One of the 31 projects in Beijing will help seniors use smart devices while remaining traditional service channels in use
at public places like hospitals, parks, supermarkets, train stations, banks and hotels.
At the end of last year, a couple of projects were launched in the city to make seniors’ travel possible by adding more
information to their senior cards.
“When the young benefited from rapid development, we should also provide services for seniors who find it difficult to
use the Internet and smart devices,” said Li Li, a political adviser. Li suggested keeping traditional service for the elderly or
organizing helpers to teach them how to use smart devices. Because the elderly faced difficulties in using the smartphones
when entering public places, she said enabling them to use the senior cards was a good try across the city.

Should we be afraid of sharks? Maybe not. Some scientists do some research about the causes of shark attacks(袭
击)and say that sharks don’t like the taste of humans! In fact, most people who were attacked didn’t die. They usually
received only one bite(咬伤). Why is this?
There are many explanations(解释)of why sharks sometimes attack people. One is that sharks are just curious.
We know that sharks are the strongest animals in their environment, so they are not afraid of anything. It means they
are curious when they see something unusual. Because they don’t have hands or feet, the only way they can learn about an
object is to bite it. It is thought that sharks sometimes bite humans for this reason, and then swim away.
Scientists also say that sharks don’t want to waste energy trying to eat a human, because we have a lot of bones(骨
头). It is hard for a shark to eat us because sharks don’t have hands, and they can’t pull the meat off our bones. Maybe
that’s why they only bite us once.
Another guess is that sharks attack humans by mistake. Some sharks, such as the great white sharks, may sometimes
mistake humans for a seal(海豹). People lying on the sea looks like seals when seen from below. Sharks like seals
because they are fat and delicious.
No matter why shark attacks on humans, sharks should be afraid of us. Sadly, we kill almost 40 million of them each
year.
( )23.The underlined word “curious” means “______” in Chinese.
A.好奇的 B.恐惧的 C.激动的 D.烦躁的
( )24.What might sharks think of humans?
A.Friendly. B.Strong. C.Not delicious. D.Convenient to eat.
( )25.Why does the writer say sharks should be afraid of humans?
A.Because humans have hands and feet.
B.Because many sharks are killed by humans.
C.Because their living environment is polluted by humans.
D.Because there are more humans than sharks in the world.
( )26.What would the author write the passage mainly for?
A.To tell surfers to stay away from sharks.
B.To ask people to stop killing sharks.
C.To let us know the reasons for shark attacks on people.
D.To show that humans are much stronger than sharks.

In the 13th century, Marco Polo, the world known Italian traveler, saw many wonderful things in China. One of the
things he discovered was money made of paper. People in the West did not have such kind of money until the 15th century.
However, the Chinese began to use it in the 7th century.
Paper was invented by a Chinese man called Cai Lun almost 2, 000 years ago. But it was not made in Europe until the
year 1100.Four hundred years later, a German discovered that he could make the best paper from trees. After that, countries
rich in forests, such as Canada, Sweden, Finland became the most important ones in paper making.
