China is a country with a long history. It has great, traditional culture, especially Chinese characters (汉字).
Chinese characters usually have more than one meaning and some of them are interesting. Here are six ones. We
use “pinyin”here because “pinyin” is the Chinese spelling way for the characters. For example. “fu”is the “pinyin:
for good luck in Chinese. Pinyin “fu” is only the phonic part of the characters and if you want to know the meaning

same as the character for“come”.
“Lu” is used to mean official’s pay in old China. “Shou”means long life, age or birthday. “xi”is happiness,
The doubled character “xi” means double happiness. It is usually put up everywhere at Chinese weddings. Cai”is
wealth or money. Chinese often say“money can make a ghost turn a millstone”. It is to say money really can do a
lot of things. But, money can’t buy everything. “He”is an important part of Chinese culture. It means good relations
with other people, when you have “he”, things will be a lot easier for you.The top six lucky Chinese characters.

The way we spend our time can be divided into three "bottles". These are the necessary tasks( 任务) bottle,
the voluntary（自愿的）tasks bottle and the happiness bottle.
Every day, we spend time filling the necessary tasks bottle with useful things, like making money, doing
housework, buying food and paying bills. We then fill another bottle with voluntary tasks. These are things that we
do for others, but we may not enjoy them. This bottle gets filled with tasks like taking children to activities,
cooking family meals, and doing laundry. Those bottles are very important. If we don't fill them each day, our
family won't run properly.
However, we often forget to fill the third bottle ---- the happiness bottle that we fill with activities that make
us happy. Is your happiness bottle sometimes empty at the end of the day? Between doing all the necessary and
voluntary tasks, time flies by, and before we know it, it is time for bed. We all have days like that.
This is why each day we have to make an effort to fill our happiness bottle. I fill mine by going to the dancing
class. And I always leave classes more happily than when I enter. This week, I had the pleasure of taking part in a
guitar practice in my neighborhood. We show our musical talent and practice music for charity. It was a time of fun,
friendship and music-making. At the end of the evening, my happiness bottle was filled to top.

There are many ways to help improve your health like eating healthy food, taking exercise and getting medical
help. But the easiest and cheapest way to improve your health is just to sleep eight hours or more every night. The
general sleeping rule is that the younger you are, the longer sleep you need. But regardless of( 不 管 )age, some
people need to sleep more while for some a few hours is enough.
The problem with sleep is that more and more people in the world are not sleeping enough. According to the
World Health Organization, over half the people in the world may be sleep-deprived. Having less sleep not only
makes people feel tired but also causes accidents. In the United States alone, sleepy drivers cause at least 100,000
traffic accidents a year. Also sleep problems can cause medical problems such as high blood pressure(血压).
Why are so many people sleep-deprived? Part of the reasons may be cultural. In the American culture, people
put a higher value on work than on sleep. In fact, people who sleep a lot are usually seen as “lazy”. Also, you can
