My name is Zach Abdile and I’m going to work in a hospital after being told I would never become a doctor.
As long as I could remember, I’ve always wanted to help people one way or another. When I was in Grade 6, I had
the amazing chance of shadowing doctors(实习医生) in a hospital in India. I was completely amazed at the level of
care that these doctors provided. Till then, I realized this was what I wanted to do for the rest of my life.
So when I told teachers that I would like to become a doctor, I think they really stuck on to that first
impression I may have given them when I was a kid. And they questioned me “Are you sure you want to do this?
Are you sure you have what it takes?” They even asked me to consider different possibilities in life. I think they
really refused to accept the fact that I wanted to become a doctor. Finally when I posted the news of passing my
final year exams, I had no idea that I would get it. Moreover, the amount of love and support that people showed
me was so heartwarming, although I’d never met them before.
I think hours of just studying on the wards(病房) during medical school can’t really make us appreciate(充分
意识到) what it’s like to be a junior doctor. For anyone that wants to follow their dreams, my biggest advice for
them is to not let anything limit them. Push through the self-doubt and push through the voices that tell you that
