I traveled alone for the first time during our last summer holiday. I went to Wolong ( 卧龙) in
Sichuan province. I stayed at a small hotel next to the Wolong Panda Center. 66. I was so excited
that I couldn’t sleep at night. But everything went well at first the next day. 67. 当我醒来的时候 ，
太阳正在升起。When I went to the center, I saw many pandas playing in the trees. I also tried to

came up to me and asked if I needed help. 69. He showed me the way back and I arrived at the

It was the summer before my third grade. Our girls’ softball team( 垒球队) was facing real
pitchers(投手) for the first time. Before that, we could just hit the ball on the tee(球座). 61. 当老师
开始投球时，击球对我来说变得困难。I missed every single pitch. From the sideline(边线), I
heard my teammate Emily laughing at me. My face got hot and my throat felt like it had a softball
stuck in. At that moment, I was starting to hate playing softball.
62. The next afternoon, when it was time to play the game. I told Mum I was sick. She
allowed me to relax for a while. 63. 于是我去了房间，躺在床上。 This was difficult for me
because I was fine and just wanted to avoid softball.
Soon Mum came in and said, "Time to go!" She didn’t even ask if I felt better. 64. I imagined

crying loudly. Still, Mum pulled my team T-shirt over my head. She said, "You have to play for
the rest of the season, and only after that we can talk about whether you’ll continue next year."
She added that practice was what I needed, not giving up. She promised to practice with me.
I got two hits that afternoon, and Emily didn’t make a sound. 65. Every week after that. I
practiced at home until I got to be one of the best hitters on the team.
That experience taught me being afraid is part of life, and I can do whatever is expected of
me if I keep working and practicing.
