9A Unit 4 Growing up

第一课时 Welcome to the unit

1. As soon as you click the mouse, there's a great deal of information.

关于“大量的,许多的”注意结构用法的归纳:

① 只能修饰不可数名词 much = a great/ good deal (of…)

② 只能修饰可数名词的复数形式 many= a large number of= large numbers of

③ 既可以修饰不可数名词又可以修饰可数名词的复数形式 a lot of = lots of = plenty of

an army of 一群 a huge army of 一大群 (修饰复数名词)

2. What's on your mind, Eddie?

① mind n.头脑

on one' s mind 挂在心上; 惦念

change one' s mind 改变主意

bring peace to one' s mind and body 给身心带来安宁

② mind v. 介意

mind (sb./one's) doing sth. 介意 (某人) 做某事

Eg. I don't mind you/ your smoking here.

Do / Would you mind…?

常见回答:表示不介意 No, Of course not. / No, not at all. /No, do as you like.等;

表示介意: You' d better not. / Better not. /I' m afraid you can't. /I' m sorry but I do.等

★注意:—Do you mind leaving me alone?

—No, I don’t (mind). (需要针对问句中的谓语动词 mind 来回答, 而不是 leave)

③ Never mind. (用于安慰) 没关系

3. I like to learn about the world through the Internet.

① through prep.

以,凭借 Eg. achieve success through hard work. 凭借辛苦工作获得成功

通过穿过 Eg. He drove through the red light. 他开车闯红灯了。(侧重从中间/内部/空间中穿过)

从头至尾,自始至终 Eg. look through 浏览,快速查看

( look through it 此处 through 是介词, 所以 it 只能放其后作宾语)

② through adv. (电话)接通

Eg. Please put me through to your boss.请替我接通你老板的电话。

★ across prep. 从一边到另一边, 越过 (动态)

在……对面 (静态) Eg. I just live across my school. 我就住学校对面。

★ walk across the road 横穿马路

Go through this street and tum right at the traffic lights. 走过这条街,在红绿灯处右转。

4. Growing up is hard.

grow (使) 生长, 发育; 长大,长高 (grow- grew-grown)

vi. grow up / grow into a handsome young man/ grow well/ grow in the south

vt. Eg. Tea is grown in the south of China.

link v. grow old 变老

★ a growing number of people = more and more people ( growing 此处用作形容词)

第二课时 Reading I

1. After he graduated, he was forced to play in another basketball league.

force vt. 强迫, 迫使

① 主动结构: force sb. to do sth.

Eg. I forced him to do it. 我强迫他做这件事。

② 被动结构: be forced to do sth.

Eg. be forced to marry a man she doesn’t love 被迫嫁给一个她不爱的男人

2. He remained there for about a year before the NBA took notice of him

① remain vi.

逗留 (不及物动词,无被动) remain + adv. / prep.

Eg. They remained in Mexico until June.他们在墨西哥一直住到六月。

保持不变 (连系动词, 无被动) remain + adj. Eg. remain healthy 保持健康

★依然是 ( remain + n.) Eg. Though we quarrel sometimes, we remain good friends.

★遗留 Eg. Very few houses remained after the fire. 大火之后, 房子所剩无几。

★在拼写上不要和 remind 混淆

② take notice of 注意,觉察

Eg. Have you taken notice of her changes recently? 最近你注意到她的变化了吗?

notice n. 注意

Eg. take no notice of 没有注意,置之不理 take little notice of 几乎没注意到

notice n. 布告, 通知

notice vt.注意, 察觉 notice sb. do sth. / notice sb. doing sth.

(notice 与look, watch, see, hear 等感官动词用法一样)

3. Spud Webb proved that size and body type do not matter.

① matter vi. 要紧, 有重大影响

matter a lot / much 相当于 be important / be of importance 或 have an influence on…

Eg. Sth. matters to sb. 某事对某人来说要紧。

Eg. The job matters a lot to me. 这份工作对我来说很重要。

It doesn’t matter. 没关系 (通常回应别人的道歉)

② matter n. 事情, 问题

Eg. What's the matter with ... ? What's wrong with…? = What's the trouble with…? ……怎么啦?

4. But his proudest moment came in 1986—he won the Slam Dunk Contest.

moment n. 时刻; 片刻; 瞬间

at the moment = now / right now (常和现在进行时或一般现在时连用)

at that moment = at that time (常和过去进行时或一般过去时连用)

a moment ago (常和一般过去时连用)

第三课时 Reading II

1. While attending junior high, Spud tried out for the school team.

① try out for… 参加……的选拔 (或试演)

Eg. try out for the school football team 参加校足球队的选拔

②和try 相关的其他词组归纳:

try (not) to do sth. = 试图, 努力 (不) 做某事

try one’s best to do sth. 竭尽全力做某事/ try on 试穿

have a try 试一试 (try n.)

③ attend vt.&vi. 经常去; 出席

attend university 上大学 / lessons / a course 上课 (表示经常去)

attend the meeting / a wedding (表示出席)
