town!

W: We really did. I will ask for Friday off. Maybe we can go to the amusement

W: Hello, I’d like a bus ticket for London, leaving on the 15th and returning on the

M: OK madam. Let’s see. (8) We have two buses going to London on the 15th. The

first is non-stop and leaves Glasgow at 7:00 a.m. (9) The second leaves at 11:00

a.m. but you would have to switch to another bus in Birmingham.

W: I think I’d prefer the direct trip. (9) I don’t mind traveling early but I don’t

really want to be moving my heavy case from one bus to another. (10)

M: OK, and for the return journey on the 21st, the non-stop bus will be leaving London at

9:00 a.m.

W: Great, that will be ideal.

W: It really was. My praise to the cook. (12)

M: I’m so glad your sister recommended this place.

W: As soon as she heard we were coming here on a business trip she said you have to eat

here.

M: Do you have any room left for pudding?

W: Oh no, I’m full. There was so much food.

M: I’ll get the bill then.

W: We can split it if you like?

M: No, I’m your boss, the least I can do is treat you to a meal. (11)

M: It’s an award for all the hard work you’ve done.

W: So are you ready to give your speech at the conference tomorrow? (13)

W: I was clearing out the cupboard and I found some old pictures. There were a lot

of old school and holiday photos, but I also came across these. (14)

them taking a lot of pictures at our birthday parties but I can’t find any of those.

M: Why did people never smile for photos in those days? He looks so serious.

W: I’m sure I’ve seen some better ones of him. We used to have two or three.

M: Are these the only family pictures you found?

W: I saved the best until last. Who is this naughty little boy? (17)

M: Oh dear. I think I had just been crying when that was taken. Don’t show it to

Welcome back! We hope you had a relaxing summer break. We are very pleased

to announce that with the new health measures in place, we are able to start some club

activities. Chess and dance clubs are still not permitted because they do not meet the

requirements about distance between people. However, we have been allowed to start

cooking, music and wood building clubs. Posters have been put up in each hall,

and students are encouraged to visit Room 209 for a list of details about each

club. (18) Students may be in only one club so that everyone has a chance to be part

of something. You can sign up in Room 310 from Wednesday until Friday. Clubs will

take place on Monday afternoons. (19) Parents must attend a meeting about safety

measures for their child. We could not be more proud of every one of you for working

together and keeping each other safe. We are able to start these activities again
