Every year, millions of people head to London's Trafalgar Square to see Nelson's
Column, and the four lion statues that “guard” it. And last month, during the London
Design Festival, a bright red lion sculpture was added to the collection.
But this was more than just a statue: It had a large open mouth, with an LED screen
inside it. At the same time, passersby could type in random words on a screen close to
the lion, which were used to produce an AI-created poem. The most interesting part of
the poems lies in their randomness, as the words that people choose to enter include
many things, such as the time, the weather and their mood. In the daytime, the finished
poem appeared on the LED screen, but at night, it was projected ( ) onto the lion's
body and the famous Nelson’s Column, in a 1ovely light display.
Es Devlin, the sculpture's creator, was inspired by the history behind the four
historic lion statues. Edwin Landseer, the designer of the lions, wanted them to look
much more animạted, but Queen Vietoria refused his plan. This made Devlin wonder,
"What if we could give a lion a poetic voice?" According to Devlin, althọugh England
has seen many poems about national identity in recent years, these works have been
lacking imagination. "I wanted to make a piece that was poetic and collective" he told
BBC News.
After standing for almost 180 years, the purpose of Trafalgar Square has changed
over the years. But thanks to the high-tech lion and its poetry, the square is standing the
test of time.
24Why was the red lion more than just a statue?
AIt could produce an AI-created poem.
BIt had a larger mouth than the others.
CIt had an LED screen inside it.
DPoems were projected onto the lion's body.
25Which of the following best explains "randomness" underlined in Paragraph2?
ALacking styles. BNot having regular patterns.
CBeing special. DAttraction to readers.
26 What does Devlin think of poems about national identity in England in recent
years?
AThey are creative. BThey are not popular.
CThey are not imaginative. DThey are poetic and collective.
27What can be a suitable title for the text?
AEs Devlin's New Creation. BThe London Design Festival.
CA Big Event in Trafalgar Square. DThe red lion in Trafalgar Square.

Music instruction appears to accelerate brain development in children, particularly
in the areas of the brain responsible for processing sound, language development,
speech perception ( 感 知 ) and reading skills, according to early results of a five-year
study.
The Brain and Creativity Institute (BCI) began the study to know the influence of
music instruction on children’s brain development. These early study results prove the
necessity of music education at a time when many schools have reduced music and arts
programs.
“We are broadly interested in the influence of music training on brain development
of children,” said Assal Habibi, the study’s lead author and a senior research associate at
the BCI. “These results reflect that children with music training, compared with the two
other comparison groups, were more accurate in processing sound.”
For this study, the scientists were monitoring brain development and behavior in a
group of 37 children from neighborhoods of Los Angeles. Thirteen of the children, at 6
or 7 years old, began to be instructed to learn music through the Youth Orchestra Los
Angeles program. The children learned to play instruments, such as the violin, in
groups, and they practiced up to seven hours a week. The scientists were comparing the
potential musicians with children of the same age in the next two groups: 11 children in
a soccer program, and 13 children who hardly took part in any specific after-school
programs. The scientists were using several tools to monitor changes in them as they
grew.
Within years of the study, the scientists found the auditory( 听 觉 的 )systems of
children in the music program were developing faster in them than in the other children.
The slight adjustment of their auditory pathway could accelerate their development of
language and reading, as well as other abilities—a potential influence which the
scientists are continuing to study.
28How do the early study results help with school education?
AThey raise students’ interest in music and arts programs.
BThey encourage many schools to increase language programs.
CThey provide the evidence of the benefits of music education.
DThey offer specific approaches to conducting music training.
29What can we know about the first group of children in the study?
AThey played soccer after school.
BThey received music instruction.
CThey played the violin separately.
DThey organized after-school programs.
30What will the scientists go on exploring?
AThe potential ways to help children speak fluently.
BHow children develop their abilities in every aspect.
CWhen children should join much more music programs.
DThe effect of music training on children’s development.
31What is the main idea of the text?
AChildren’s brain develops faster with music training.
BChildren learn language easily after listening to music.
CA science study on children’s brain turns out successful.
DMusic training can help children to hear others clearly.
