Passage1
Ice cream innovation
Is there anything nicer than a cooling ice cream on a hot summer's day? This 1 (tradition) treat is
centuries old, but our tastes and consumer habits are evolving. How is the ice
cream production process changing, and who is driving this change?
Making ice cream is 2 time-consuming process. While the recipe is simple--milk, sugar and fat,
plus flavours and colours--ice cream has a complex chemistry. 3 (Get) the balance right between ice, fat
and air is important if the ice cream is to have the right texture. 4 (achieve) this, the ingredients need to
be mixed and heated, then cooled and frozen--a process 5 takes time and uses a lot of energy. Designers
and engineers are working to improve the production process with new specialised equipment to make it
6 (increasing) automated. For now, however, even with the help of robots and 3D printers, it can take up to
two years from testing a new frozen dessert product to it being available to 7 (consumer).
And demand is only going up. According to the food packaging company Tetra Pak, more than 25
billion litres of ice cream 8 (eat) worldwide in 2021. While the US and China are the biggest consumers,
data from NielsenIQ shows that people in the UK bought 28% more ice cream during the UK's record-
breaking summer 9 (compare) to a year earlier. Clearly, rising temperatures can explain why some people
are buying more ice cream, but it's not the only explanation. The pandemic has seen people reaching for
pleasures they can enjoy at home, 10 include eating indulgent foods. And worries about the cost-of-living
crisis could have a similar effect, as even a premium ice cream is an affordable treat.

cybersecurity protection, a white paper said.
The paper, 2 (entitle) "Jointly Building a Community with a Shared Future in Cyberspace", was
issued by China's State Council Information Office on Monday and reported that China has developed the

services, and more than 12 million impoverished people 6 (benefit) from lower internet access fees,
according to the paper.
Smart Education of China, an online public service platform that opened in March this year, has
connected 529,000 schools and has provided 34,000 videos, articles and handbooks 7 (relate) to basic
education, it said.
Barrier-free access to information services has been increased to help the elderly and disabled enjoy a
digital life, it said, adding that stronger measures have also been taken 8 (protect) juveniles in
cyberspace.
Furthermore, the paper said that the country has stepped up efforts in strengthening law-based
cyberspace governance to fight internet-related violations 9 crimes such as telecom fraud, online
gambling and cyberbullying.
It added that in recent years, China has consolidated its lines of defense against cyber threats by taking
various approaches, 10 (include) by intensifying risk assessment and safety inspection as well as by
establishing a cybersecurity information sharing mechanism and an early-warning system.

Passage3
Foreign trade growth expected to be stable
The growth of China's foreign trade is expected to become stable this year, given the robust
performance during the January-October period, 1 has laid a solid foundation, trade watchers said on
Monday.
2 country's foreign trade surged 9.5 percent year-on-year to 34.6 trillion yuan ($4.7 trillion) in the first
10 months of 2022, while its trade surplus jumped 46.7 percent year-on-year to 4.8 trillion yuan, according
to the General Administration of Customs.
3 (Judge) from the sector's performance so far this year, and given the resilience of the country's
industrial and supply chains, China is likely 4 (see) stable growth of foreign trade and a high trade
surplus this year, said Wei Jianguo, vice-chairman of Beijing-based China Center for International
Economic Exchanges.
