【详解】M: Well, I started learning Chinese a long time ago. First I learned a little bit when I was in college. But
I probably picked up most of it when I was overseas in Beijing.
W: Did you meet any difficulties in your learning?
M: Yes, a lot. Grammar and vocabulary are not easy for foreigners like me. But two of the most challenging things
when you study Chinese are the tones and the characters. Writing Chinese characters is like drawing pictures. As a
Chinese character with square structure, its “form”, “sound” and “meaning” form a close combination, but the
relationship between the three is relatively complex. I think that’s just extremely difficult. And it was frustrating to
be teaching...teaching kindergarten students and realizing that their reading was much better than mine.
W: Of course they were. They have been exposed to Chinese for so many years.

M: In fact we don’t. We don’t do it that often, but if we do, then of course the next day or the next few days you
