The most important lesson I learned in high school had nothing to do with maths or American history. It came
at graduation, several minutes before I left Miramonte High School.

Another person’s enthusiasm was what set me moving toward the success I have achieved. That person was
my stepmother.
I was nine years old when she entered our home in rural (乡下的)Virginia. My father 21 me to her with
