It had been a “long” and hard walk from home to the subway station for
teenager Mandy Chan when she first put on Hanfu in public. Chan is one of the
founders of Hanfu in Hong Kong. “It was a set with a cream-colored shirt, a
brown jacket in China’s Ming dynasty style and a red pleated (有褶的) skirt
made by me,” she recalled recently, almost 10 years later.
It was not the looks from others but her limited knowledge on the
traditional Chinese clothing that had terrified her. Chan added, “If anyone had
asked what I was wearing, or the history behind it, I would have been afraid I
couldn’t tell them the whole picture.”
However, her uneasiness had gradually drifted away with more deep
research on traditional Chinese culture. Hanfu was the traditional clothing of
China’s Han ethnic group that was formed in the main residential areas of the
Han people in ancient China. The historical clothing has untold stories and
ideas in every detail. The cutting and stitching (缝合) line in the middle part of
Hanfu fits the spine (脊柱) of the human body and helps people to dress
properly. This design, which has gone beyond itself as mere decoration, points
to the qualities of the wearers as upright and easy-going individuals.
“Instead of imitating people like what I used to do, I have jumped out of
my comfort zone and found the style that suits me best,” Chan said. “Through
Hanfu, I have found myself and so many unexplored things in my life.” Chan
added that she had found her lifelong passion through Hanfu, which is a goal
and dream that has never been absent from her life. Chan found she was not
alone after falling in love with Hanfu. She believes that classics will never go out of style
and she herself has integrated Hanfu into her everyday life.
24Why did Chan feel uneasy when she first wore Hanfu in public?
AIt was not proper for a long walk.
BShe didn’t like the looks from others.
CShe was asked a lot about her clothes.
DShe had a limited knowledge of Hanfu.
25What is special about Hanfu in design according to Paragraph 3?
AIt tells special stories of its wearers.
BIt shows personal qualities of its wearers.
CIt has complex cutting and stitching.
DIt appeals to Han ethnic group especially.
26What can we infer from the last paragraph?
AHanfu has a strong influence on Chan.
BHanfu will be a big business in China.
CHanfu will take the lead in the fashion.
DHanfu allows her to know more people.

The Healthy Habits Survey shows that only about one third of American seniors have
correct habits. Here are some findings and expert advice.
1.How many times did you brush your teeth yesterday?
Finding: A full 33% of seniors brush their teeth only once a day.
Step:Remove the 300 types of bacteria in your mouth each morning
with a battery-operated(电动的) toothbrush. Brush gently for 2 minutes, at least twice a
day.
2. How many times did you wash your hands or bathe yesterday?
Finding; Seniors, on average, bathe fewer than 3 days a week. And nearly 30% wash
their hands only 4 times a day ─half of the number which doctors advise.
Step: We touch our faces around 3,000 times a day ─often inviting germs(细菌) to
enter our mouth, nose and eyes. Use toilet paper to avoid touching the door handle. And,
most important, wash your hands often with hot running water and soap for 20 seconds.
3. How often do you think about fighting germ
Finding: Seniors are not fighting germs as well as they should.
Step: Do you know it is not your toilet but your kitchen sponge(海绵) that can carry
more germs than anything else? To kill these germs, keep your sponge in the
microwave(微波炉) for 10 seconds.
28What is found out about American seniors?

Whether you're buying a house, a car or second-hand furniture, it's
likely you will need to negotiate the price, so being able to negotiate
effectively could save you significant cash.
Professor Lionel Page from the University of Technology Sydney
(UTS) said opening offers in real-world negotiations are sometimes
intended to signal the "toughness" of the buyer - but whether this strategy
actually works was not known. "This experiment allowed us to study
whether and how the level of the opening offer influences the beliefs of
buyers and sellers, their actions and the final bargaining outcome," said
Professor Page.
The researchers conducted the experiment using a bargaining game.
They found that the success or failure of a negotiation depended not only
on the final offer on the table but also on the emerging dynamics of the
bargaining process. "The intermediary offers made during a negotiation can
be interpreted as suggesting either kind and compromising intentions, or
unkind and uncompromising ones," said Professor Page. "And the
perception of these intentions can, in turn, influence the final outcome.
Low offers are perceived as disrespectful, so sellers react negatively and
can be spiteful (恼 人) in their counter-offers (还价)," he said. This means
it is not the best strategy to always be as tough as possible in a negotiation.
Previously there have been two conflicting views on first offers in
negotiations, said Professor Page. One view is that a low opening offer
works as an "anchor" that moves the final offer in the direction of the first
offer. The second is that a more reasonable initial offer achieves a better
outcome because it doesn't sour the atmosphere and endanger the
agreement. Professor Page said their study showed support for both these
ideas.
32What is the purpose of paragraph 1?
ATo present a problem. BTo introduce the topic.
CTo give some examples. DTo put forward a concept.
33What did the study mainly focus on?
AThe first offer in a negotiation. BThe final bargaining outcome.
CThe beliefs of buyers and sellers. DThe intentions in the process.
34What can we learn about the study?
AIt was carried out in a real situation.
BParticipants shared kind intentions.
CMost negotiations ended in failure.
DIts result supported the previous views.
35What can be the best title for the passage?
ACounter-offers: A Bargaining Game
BCompromise: A Bridge to a Good Deal
CBargain: A Reasonable Initial Offer Matters
DNegotiation: Process Makes a Big Difference
