第一节(共 15 小题;每小题 2分,满分 30 分)
阅读下列短文,从每题所给的 ABCD四个选项中,选出最佳选项。
A
Best Campgrounds in U.S. National Parks
Gold Bluffs Beach Campground, Redwood National & State Park, CA
The remote campground is located about 6 miles up unpaved Davison Road. This is a small campground,
though, with only 26 sites. So you’ll need to book your site well in advance. As far as facilities go, there are solar
showers, barbecues and fire pits, picnic tables and food lockers-more than enough for a remote camping
adventure. Note that the first part of Davison Road is very steep and winding. Large RVs( 房车)are prohibited on
this road.
Nightly rate: $35
Watchman Campground, Zion National Park, UT
There are five different loops(): Loop A and B have electric campsites, while the C and D are tent-only.
Loop E is where the group sites are. Note, however, that this campground is extremely popular. Reservations are
absolutely recommended from March through November. The off-season, on the other hand, offers first-come,
first-served camping.
Nightly rate: $30 for an electric site; $20 for a tent-only site
Pi ñon Flats Campground, Great Sand Dunes National Park, co
As an International Dark Sky Park, Great Sand Dunes is also a great place to see the Milky Way and
amazing views of North America’s tallest sand dunes. It is popular among children and adults alike. Renting a
sled or sand board for an afternoon of fun —you’ll feel like a kid again. Sites can accommodate both RVs and
tents.
Nightly rate: $20
Painted Desert, Petrified Forest National Park, AZ
It’s a fantastic place to put up a tent. This is free camping, wild camping. The only thing you have to do to
camp there is to get a permit in person at the Painted Desert Visitor Center. Once you’re a mile from the trail
head, you’re free to set up tents wherever you want. Remember to obey the Leave No Trace principles, though!
Of course, there are no facilities in this desert wilderness. So, you’ll need to pack everything you need, from
water and food to other supplies.
21Which of the following charges no fees for the campsites?
ARedwood National State Park. BZion National Park.
CGreat Sand Dunes National Park. DPetrified Forest National Park.

Last September an American started a trip through Southwest China on a standard bike she had bought at a
local shop. In three months, Jennifer Holstein cycled 2,500 kilometers through three provinces with just two small
bags.
Living in Beijing, her life was already great. But Holstein felt the urge to travel the world and look for
adventure. It was mid-August of 2021 that the idea came to her to travel China by bicycle. At that time, Holstein
had never cycled for more than 20 kilometers around her local city of Beijing.
Holstein shared an experience from the beginning of her trip when she found herself stuck in a tunnel ( 隧道)
with a flat tire. It was dark and hot, and she was so scared because she had never changed a tire before. Suddenly,
a group of cyclists old enough to be her grandparents came and rescued her.
In addition to receiving the kindness of people across China, Holstein also experienced several unique
cultural experiences by attending three local weddings. She spoke about one wedding in detail, “I was in the
middle of a small village in Sichuan province, and I was taken into a local Tibetan family’s home and they invited
me to take part in a wedding. They gave me a dress and even did my makeup. I never thought I would ever have
the chance to take part in a Tibetan wedding.”
According to Holstein, “Many people want to travel the world and take huge risks, but never do. Don’t just
live your life hoping your wildest dreams will become a reality someday. Try first and the rest will work itself
out.” In addition to biking for her own passion and curiosity, Holstein also linked her ride to raise 22,000 yuan for
the United Foundation for China’s Health.
24Why did Jennifer Holstein decide to travel by bicycle?
AHer life in Beijing was dull. BHer friends encouraged her to go.
CShe was pushed by an inner desire. DShe was an experienced bike traveler.
25How did the cyclists treat Jennifer Holstein in the tunnel?
AThey called an old man to help her. BThey helped her fix the tire problem.
CThey ignored her and moved forward. DThey thought themselves too old to help her.
26What can be inferred from Jennifer Holstein’s words in paragraph 4?
AShe was fond of attending Tibetan weddings.
BShe was a bit annoyed at the wedding’s details.
CShe was forced to take part in the local wedding.
DShe was grateful for such an unexpected opportunity.
27What’s the main idea of the text?
ALending a helping hand to the needy. BEnjoying the pleasure of travel.
CDiscovering the unknown on a bicycle. DHaving a unique cultural experience in China.

A flood hit Yellowstone National Park on June 13, 2022. The disaster was caused by a combination of
unusually heavy rains and rapid snow melt. The high and fast water flows destroyed bridges and swept away
entire roadways, leaving communities and homes isolated. Fortunately, the approximately 10,000 park visitors
were safely evacuated.
The town of Gardiner, along the Montana-Wyoming border, was particularly hard hit. The floodwaters left
almost 900 people with no power or water for many days. Gardiners economy, which depends on the almost
three-quarters of a million visitors who pass through the park’s north gate annually, is likely to take a hit. The
floodwaters severely damaged the main north entrance road to Yellowstone, and could take years to rebuild.
Park officials have begun work on improving an alternative road to Gardiner. This will ensure that locals
can access food, supplies, and other essential emergency services. A limited number of tourists may also be
allowed into Gardiner once the road is stable.
Yellowstone’s north gate is closed indefinitely. But the park’s south gate opened to visitors on June 22, 2022.
Park officials have started a new entry system to prevent overcrowding. It is based on the last number of the
visitors vehicle license plate and the calendar date of the month. Cars with odd (奇数的) numbers can visit the
park on odd days of the month, while those with even (偶数的) numbers can go on even days.
Established in 1872, Yellowstone is America’s oldest national park. The 3,472-square-mile
reserve spans three states and is home to many unique wildlife. It is known for its natural beauty that includes
mountains, rivers and lakes. The forces of fire and ice shaped the park over thousands of years.
28What does the underlined word “isolated” in paragraph 1 probably mean?
ATracked. BSeparated. CDecorated. DImproved.
29What was the possible result of the flood?
AGardiners economy would get into trouble.
BCommunities and homes were left in ruins.
CAlmost 900 people were trapped in the park.
DThe park’s south gate was closed for a while.
30What can be inferred from the text?
ALocal people can get daily necessities from visitors.
BThe park has adopted a new system to recognize faces.
CThe license plate number decides when cars enter the park.
DMore tourists may flood into the park for geological features.
31Which of the following statements is true according to the text?
AFlooding has caused widespread damage in the US.
BYellowstone National Park is closed due to flooding.
CPeople can visit Yellowstone National Park any day.
DNatural beauty makes Yellowstone famous.

This journey began this morning almost an hour later than I had planned, although I had completed my
packing before eight o’clock. I was quite clear about the fact that once I left, my house would stand empty for
probably the first time since the day it was built. It was a strange feeling and perhaps explains why I was leaving
so late, walking around the house many times over, checking one last time to see that all was in order.
It is hard to explain my feelings once I did finally set off. As I drove further and further from the house, I
found the surroundings grow unrecognizable. I began to have a feeling of unease mixed with excitement. I took a
turning and found myself on a road circling the edge of a hill. I could sense the steep ( 陡峭的) drop to my left. I
felt a sense of alarm that I was perhaps not on the correct road at all, but speeding off in the wrong direction into a
wilderness. It was only the feeling of a moment, but it caused me to slow down. And even when I was sure I was
on the right road, I felt forced to stop the car a moment to think carefully.
I decided to step out and stretch () my legs a little. On the one side of the road, thickets and small trees
rose sharply, while on the other I could now see the distant countryside and a town nearby.
I walked a little way along the roadside, when I heard a voice behind me. Until this point I had believed
myself quite alone and I turned in some surprise. Sitting on the large stone was a thin, whitehaired man. He called
to me again and signaled me to join him. For a moment, I took him for a homeless man, but then I saw he was just
some local man enjoying the fresh air and summer sunshine, and saw no reason not to do so.
32Why did the author set off later than planned?
ABecause he repeatedly checked the house.
BBecause he was feeling sad about leaving the house.
CBecause packing his belongings took longer than expected.
DBecause there was no one to help him get everything ready.
33What caused the author to start driving more slowly?
AThe road had become steep. BHe realized he was driving too fast.
CThe beautiful scenery attracted him. DHe suddenly feared that he might get lost.
34When the author walked out of his car, he ________.
Adidn’t expect to see anyone Bdidn’t want to speak to anybody
Cdidn’t know there was a town nearby Dcouldn’t see anything because of the tree
35What was the authors attitude to his trip?
AHe just wanted to finish it. BHe felt unable to continue it.
CHe regretted having started it. DHe had mixed feelings about it.
