Many people travel to enrich and enjoy themselves. However, their travel methods may be different each
year.
Lonely Planet and Forbes concluded some top trends (趋势) in 2022. Here are three of them for you to
take a look.
Solo (独自) travel
Traditionally, travel seems to be a group activity to have fun together and avoid loneliness. But solo travel
became popular, especially among young people in 2022.
Traveling on your own means that you are the boss of everything, choosing wherever you want to go,
whatever you eat and whenever you go out. For some people, it also makes them a more confident person that is
ready to deal with anything. Traveling in a totally foreign land on your own can be challenging. “It opens up
your mind to new things, and pushes you out of your comfort zone,” Kristina Wegscheider, a traveler from the
US, told Travel Pulse.
Augmented attractions (增强型景点)
World travel can be expensive. But virtual reality (虚拟现实) and augmented reality, or VR and AR, are
giving more possibilities to travel for little cost. With ever-improving headsets, smartphones and Wi-Fi
connections, people can have a 360-degree experience of museums, theme parks and historical sites.
With these technologies, visitors can experience the surface of Mars with just a headset, or view a sea
cow’s growing flesh before their eyes in a museum.
Getting off the touristy path
There are always some “must-see” spots anywhere you travel. But traveling in such places always brings
problems like overcrowding and noise.
In order to have a better travel experience, many tried to visit less famous places in 2022. With less
transportation and fewer things to do, visiting a little town lets people slow down and notice the little things.
Take a walk, ride a bike, sip coffee a little slower, take a deep breath and explore the natural scenery.
21. Who are most likely to choose solo travel?
A. An old man. B. A little child.
C. A young man. D. A middle aged woman.
22. How do VR and AR change the way we travel?
A. They allow us to visit places at a low cost.
B. They make museums the hottest destinations.
C. They challenge us to walk out of our comfort zones.
D. They make space travel a reality for ordinary people.
23. In which section of a magazine can you read the text?
A. Health. B. Travel. C. Science. D. Environment.
B
Lynn Colwell is a mixed-media artist in Redmond, Washington. When she retired, she took a year-long
online painting class to pursue a new interest. She started painting striking portraits of women’s faces, combined
with short messages of hope. She drew a new one almost every day. In five years, she’s completed about 1,000
paintings.
Lynn gives her paintings away. She started with friends, but that only went so far. Then she read about a
movement called Art Abandonment, which encourages artists to leave their art in public places for anyone to
pick up. That gave her the idea of putting her work into the hands of strangers through Facebook.
Lynn didn’t want to sell her art, but she wanted to feel she was making a difference in the world. She was
interested in living simply, protecting the environment and giving back. Nearly every day, Lynn posts a painting
on her Facebook page. The first person who responds saying the paintings are interesting has 24 hours to make a
donation of $25 or more to their favorite nonprofit or an individual in need. Then the painting is theirs. Lynn
doesn’t ask for proof. She trusts that the people who want her paintings share her ideals.
Five years later, she’s still amazed at the results. Her paintings have raised more than $57,000 for
nonprofits such as animal rescue centers, homeless shelters and food banks as well as for people who have lost
their jobs or been overwhelmed with medical bills. Sometimes Lynn hears that a painting helped someone at the
moment they needed it most. “That gives me chills,” she says.
24What’s Lynn’s aim to take online painting class?
ATo kill her dull time. BTo develop a hobby.
CTo prepare for sales. DTo get to know friends.
25Why was Art Abandonment mentioned?
ATo link it with Facebook. BTo show why it’s popular.
CTo arouse public curiosity. DTo stress its influence.
26Which word can describe Lynn according to paragraph 3?
AEasy-going. BOut-going. CKind-hearted. DSimple-minded.
27What’s the best title for the text?
AA Great Elderly Artist BLetting Painting Speak up
CPainting Improves Lynn’s Life DPainting to Change the World
C
Can you survive an unannounced storm? Although there is expert broadcasting and we have cell phones,
there are still some instances (情况) when the violent weather takes us by surprise.
While most Atlantic hurricanes form off the coast of Africa giving plenty of early warning, sudden
Caribbean and Gulf of Mexico hurricanes form and move rapidly in less than a day’s time, endangering
everyone and everything in their path.
Oil workers were trapped off the shore when sudden storms appeared. Natural scientists have been stuck in
coastal areas without storm warning. Ten years ago a Texas National Guard group was trapped on the beach by
rain-forced flooding and bad to ride out (受得) a major hurricane during a training exercise. There’ve been
a few instances when travelers were trapped on an island or in a coastal area and unable to escape in time.
Escaping from the storm-threatens areas is generally a choice for most of us but not for all. Each year
thousands of islanders across the Caribbean face the danger of hurricanes without so much as a public shelter to
hide in. Most survive the storm in their homes.
But there’re a few things yon can do to prepare yourself for some unexpected emergencies. Being prepared
for the unexpected may be your best and only defense. If you’re headed outdoors for a few days or weeks, you
should always carry a flashlight with extra batteries, a Beidou device, and a basic medical box. If you’re
traveling in your car, remember you may suffer high winds. You’d better not stay inside to avoid being blown
away along with your car. Keeping your head and your courage up is essential to survival in any type of danger.
Let common sense guide you and always be prepared for the worst.
28Which statement is true about most Atlantic hurricanes according to the passage?
AThey form in the Caribbean Sea BThey develop off the coast of Africa
CThey come from Gulf of Mexico DThey are from the Pacific Ocean
29What is the third paragraph mainly about?
APeople trapped by sudden storms.
