M: I spend a lot of time learning English grammar rules and I copy new words out of the
dictionary. But I always make mistakes in my homework.
W: Maybe just try reading some English books and you’ll learn new words like that.

lessons. Dad wants to teach me but he is too busy!
W: Is it an easy language? I always have problems with grammar in foreign languages.
M: That's OK and the vocabulary isn't very difficult. My problem is when I'm writing. The
spelling is hard!

W: I found out about a website that helps you improve your English.
M: Who told you about it? Sarah from work?
W: Actually, I saw it on my favorite TV program English Fun, the one we used to listen to
on the radio.
M: I got tired of it. It got so boring.
W: It's funny you should say that, but the radio shows on the website are nothing like
that.Their clever advice has really helped me
M: So, do you spend a lot of time on the website?
W: On Friday I was on it for an hour and a half yesterday about three quarters of an hour
and today maybe I'll find an hour to read some articles.
M: Are there articles too?
W: Yes, on different levels. It's a pity they don't have any videos. If you are not sure about
your English level, you can ask an online adviser.
M: Sounds good. I'm going to contact an adviser on the website and get started.

I'm Brazilian so I speak Portuguese but I speak German at home.People are interested when
they find out but they’re amazed when I say my parents are from Russia and Turkey! They
say “Wow! How's that?” Well, my parents first met when they were both working on a
ship.My father was an engineer and my mother was responsible for cleaning the ship.The
people on the ship had a kind of party each week and my parents met there.M mum said
Dad was a really good dancer which I find very difficult to believe.Anyway neither spoke
each others language but my mum had worked in Germany before and Dad knew German
from school, so that's how they communicated. They chose to live in Rio because the ship
usually stopped here and after they were married they often had a short holiday here. They
also said it saved them from arguing about whose country to live in.
