The Berlin Film Festival is one of the “A” festivals in Europe. The Berlin International Film Festival,
also called the “Berlinale”, is held annually in February and started in 1951 after an initiative of the
American, who occupied part of the city after World War Ⅱ. The jury(专家评奖团)always places special
emphasis on representing films from all over the world, from the former Eastern Bloc(集团)Countries as
well as from Western countries. The awards are called Golden and Silver Bears (as the bear is the symbol of
Berlin).
Cannes Film Festival
The Cannes Film Festival is a famous international film festival. It has been held annually in Cannes,
in the south of France, since 1946 with a few exceptions. Given massive media exposure, the Festival is
attended by many movie stars and is a popular venue for movie producers to launch their new films and

It is natural that young people are often uncomfortable(不自在) when they are with their
parents. They say that their parents don’t understand them. They often think that their parents
are out of touch with modern ways; that they are too serious and too strict with their children;
and that they seldom give their children a free hand.
It is true that parents often find it difficult to win their childrens trust and they tend to
forget how they themselves felt when young. They show that they have grown up and they
can face any difficult situation. Older people worry more easily. Most of them plan things
ahead, at least in the back of their minds, and do not like their plans to be upset(扰乱) by
something unexpected.
When you want your parents to let you do something, you will have better success if you
ask before you really start doing it.
Young people often make their parents angry with their choices in clothes, in
entertainment and in music. But they do not mean to cause any trouble; it is just that they feel
cut off from the older people’s world, into which they have not yet been accepted. That’s why
young people want to make a new culture(文化) of their own. And if their parents do not like
their music or entertainment or clothes or their way of speech, this will make the young
people extremely happy.
Sometimes you are so proud of yourself that you do not want your parents to say “yes” to
what you do. All you want is to be left alone and do what you like. It is natural enough, after
being a child for so many years, when you were completely under your parents’ control.
If you plan to control your life, you’d better win your parents over and try to get them to
understand you. If your parents see that you have a high sense of responsibility(责任), they
will certainly give you the right to do what you want to do.

I sat in my old room, looking at the football on the shelve, feeling it laughing at me.
In college at Baylor, I’d been a star wide receiver, dreaming of making it big in the NFL,
But I wasn’t picked in the NFL draft. Then I started as an undrafted free agent with the
Indianapolis Colts. However, Colts called me back to practice. A second chance! Then
something went wrong with my knee and I had to give it up. The next season, the Seattle
Seahawks invited me to minicamp. They cut me at the end of the preseason.
Was that my fate? How would I move forward? I wept bitter tears. Then I got a call
unexpectedly. A guy asked me to speak in his school. I wrote down all I should say. But the
minute I stepped on stage, my mind went blank. I had no idea how to help these teens. All I
could talk about was what I’d been through.
Those kids asked me questions afterward, hungry for more. I got a huge welcome, bigger
than I ever got on the football field. That’s when it hit me: You needn’t be perfect to help
people. All you have to be is real.
My life was coming. Without planning it, I had a whole new calling. I began posting to
YouTube every day. The videos took off, getting thousands of views. It was inspiring. The
comments and questions came pouring in. People came to ask for advice and help I’d never be
able to offer if I were playing on Sunday.
Today I do many speaking engagements. Every day I post a video and respond to all those
questions from people, always speaking from the heart, I’m still in progress. We all are,
having so many ways to grow, and so much to learn and pass along.

30What can we know about the author?
AHe is warm-hearted. BHe is good-looking.
CHe wants to be a player. DHe wants to ask for advice.
31What may be the best title for the text?
AFind a way to get success BBe yourself to help others
CMake progress little by little DStick to your dream to the end

There is an old saying in English: “Laughter is the best medicine”. Until recently, few
people took the saying very seriously. Now, however, doctors have begun to investigate
laughter and the effects it has on the human body. They have found evidence that laughter
really can improve people’s health.
Tests were carried out to study the effects of laughter on the body. People watched funny
films, while doctors checked their heart rate, blood pressure, breathing and muscles. It was
found that laughter has similar effects to physical exercise. It increases blood pressure, the
heart rate and the rate of breathing; it also works several groups of muscles in the face, the
stomach, and even the feet. If laughter exercises the body, it must be beneficial.
Other tests have shown that laughter appears to be capable of reducing the effect of pain
on the body. In one experiment doctors produced pain in groups of students who listened to
different radio programs. The group, which tolerated the pain for the longest time, was the
group, which listened to a funny program. The reason why laughter can reduce pain seems to
be that it helps to produce endorphins(内啡肽)in the brain. These are natural chemicals that
diminish both stress and pain.
