M: Milly, thank you for your card!
W: You’re welcome. Did you get some nice presents?
M: Yes, I did. My grandma usually gives me a T-shirt or something like that, but this year she gave me a new
headphone.

W: I just received a call from Mr. Parker in Boys Electronics Store, and he said that he was in a hurry to receive the
goods. I think you’d better call the truck driver and ask him to drop by there first.
M: OK.

W: Oh, it’s horrible. It looks like a group of mushrooms. We can put it in our dining room.
M: Listen, Jenny. I don’t like any of these paintings. Why don’t we try another shop?

W: I went to see a brilliant dance show yesterday.
M: Who did you go with?
W: Well, my parents bought me two tickets for my birthday. My sister didn’t want to come with me, because she doesn’t
really like dance. So I invited my cousin. We had a great time!

M: I’m sending this book to my friend for her birthday. What about you?
W: I’m getting stamps. Do you fancy going for a pizza?

W: The Monday afternoon optional course seems to be turning out OK. I thought it was boring at first.
M: Yes. After the first week I thought I might end up dropping it but I’m getting more used to the lecturer.
W: I wish he didn’t speak so softly though. It’s hard to hear his voice from the back of that huge lecture hall. If he wasn’t
so humorous, I think I’d drop the course. And his words on the blackboard are too small. I can’t read them when I sit at
the back.
M: I think it’s a good job that he puts them up online for us.

W: How was your holiday?
M: Fantastic. The island was great.
W: What did you do there?
M: Well, there were monkeys living in the woods on the island. We tried to feed them bananas, but they were wild and
wouldn’t come close enough, but they were cute.
W: Did you see some dolphins?
M: Of course. There was a boat trip to go dolphin-watching on Day 3. On Day 4, there was a bird-watching trip out in
the bay just as the sun was coming up. I had to wake up early for the morning trip, but it was definitely worth going. That
was my favorite part. Last, I was so relaxed during the last two days. I just walked along the beach …

W: Leo, what are you doing?
M: Hi Fiona. I’m working on my geography project.
W: Oh. I’ve done mine. I planned to write about the animals in Africa, but I found the deserts more interesting. Then I
changed my mind. What about you?
M: I’m doing my project on the rainforest in Brazil. I’ve found this amazing website. Look!
W: Wow! The rainforest is an amazing place. Does it rain every day there?
M: Well, there’s a rainy season from December to May.
W: There are lots of interesting animals in the rainforest, aren’t there?
M: Yes. Look, these sloths are really cute! There are also some amazing spiders.
W: Oh, don’t show me those! I don’t like spiders.
M: OK, don’t worry. And there are over a thousand different kinds of birds. Look at these ones.
W: Oh, I’ve seen some like those in the zoo. They’re really colorful! Oh, and what’s that?
M: It’s a kind of snake. It’s one of the biggest snakes in the world.
W: Wow! Really? Do you know how long it can live?

M: Do you fancy going to see a show tonight?
W: Sure! Great idea! What’s on?
M: I’ve got the paper here. I’ll have a look. There’s a circus from Moscow. I love the circus, especially the clowns.
W: I don’t find the clowns very amusing. I never have.
M: Oh, OK. Well, let’s forget the circus then. What about this — The Dancing Queen? It’s a musical — I read a review
of it in a magazine. It’s supposed to be extremely funny! Shall we go and see that?
W: I’m not really into musicals. Is there anything else on?
M: Sure. There’s Take It or Leave It. It came out last week.
W: What kind of play?
M: It’s a comedy.
W: Oh, right. That isn’t my favorite kind of play. In fact, I really don’t like stage comedies at all.
M: Alright. There are lots of other things on. For example, they’re showing an old black and white comedy. Do you like
old silent films?
W: To be honest, silent films don’t make me laugh.
M: Fine. Let’s forget that, then. How about a more modern film?
W: Good idea.
M: Here’s one called Sweet Dating. It’s a romantic comedy.
W: I’m tired of seeing romantic comedies. Sorry.
M: Well, why don’t we just go to the comedy club in the town centre? They always have good comedians there.
W: I’m not a big fan of comedy clubs. But I suppose I could give it a go ...
M: Great!

Okay, now for some news about our annual charity auction evening. Unfortunately, we can’t use the Forest Hotel
again, as it’s being re-decorated, but we’re very excited about getting into the Park Hotel for the auction this year. It’s
located opposite the station. We have an exciting range of things to sell this year, but we’d always welcome more items.
The final day is next Thursday.
All money from this year’s events goes towards helping local homeless people. We intend to use the money from
the auction to build a new training centre, where homeless people can come to learn new skills. It’ll be next to the
existing hotel and you can see the plans in the office. Please give your names to the secretary before the day of the event.
We’ve also got some fantastic items in this year’s auction as usual. But the dinner at the new restaurant — the City
Lights is new this year. We’re expecting the most interest in the tickets to The Big Thing, as this fantastic festival is now
sold out. We’re also very excited about the day pass to the local adventure park for younger ones. Now then, we have
enough people to help with seating, but we are looking for some volunteers to help with the coffee. If you think you can
do this, please contact Mr. Baker. We’re sure it’s going to be a huge success ...
