An early morning winter storm had brought several inches of snow to my small town in the
mountains. Schools were canceled, roads were dangerous and all I wanted to do was to stay in bed.
However, I knew I had to get the day started so I put on warm clothes and walked outside. The snow got all
over my shoes. The cold wind dried my lips and my eyes. My 47-year-old back ached in anticipation (
预
想 ) of the shoveling (
铲雪 ) I would have to do if the snow didn't stop soon.
Yet, when I looked out on the white blanket that covered the ground, I couldn't help but smile a bit. It
was so beautiful. It softened the bare trees and hid the dead grass. In the distance I could hear the sound of
the snowplow on the road, the barking of a happy dog and the laughter of children playing outside,
enjoying their day off from school. The sweet music of that laughter brought back a hundred memories of
winters past. I remembered catching snowflakes on my tongue, building snowmen, making snow angels,
running down hills and always losing snowball fights with first my brothers and then my own children.
Standing there in that warm coat of memories made the wind a little less cold and my back a little less sore.
I turned up my head, stuck out my tongue and for the first time in years caught a snowflake on it. It tasted
so fresh and clean. It tasted like youth, like joy and like love.
May you always feel young in spirit, no matter how old or achy your body may be. May you always
delight in the simple joys of life. May you always share your happiness with the hearts of children. And
may you always give your love, your light, your laughter and your warmth to others even on the coldest
days.
24.What was the author's first reaction when he knew it snowed heavily?
A.He felt happy. B.He was upset. C.He was moved. D.He felt in danger.

A.felt too cold because the snow didn’t stop
B.liked to start his day on such a snowy day
C.ached in his back because of the cold weather
D.would make greater efforts to clear up the snow
26.From which senses did the author describe the joy of having snow?
A.Taste and smell. B.Sight and smell. C.Sight, hearing and taste. D.Smell, hearing and
taste.
27.What does the author mainly want to tell us with this article?
A.We should always stay young at heart.
B.Snow brings both fun and trouble to humans.
C.Memories can change our opinion in all aspects.
D.Appreciate every moment spent with your family.

Parents and kids today dress alike, listen to the same music, and are friends. Is this a good thing?
Sometimes, when Mr. Ballmer and his 16-year-old daughter, Elizabeth, listen to rock music together and
talk about interests both enjoy, such as pop culture, he remembers his more distant relationship with his
parents when he was a teenager.
“I would never have said to my mom, ‘Hey, the new Weezer album is really great. How do you like
it?” says Ballmer. “There was just a complete gap in taste.”Music was not the only gulf. From clothing and
hairstyles to activities and expectations, earlier generations of parents and children often appeared to move
in separate orbits.
Today, the generation gap( 代 沟 ) has not disappeared, but it is getting narrow in many families.
Conversations on subjects such as sex and drugs would not have taken place a generation ago. Now they
are comfortable and common. And parent-child activities, from shopping to sports, involve a feeling of
trust and friendship that can continue into adulthood. No wonder greeting cards today carry the message,
“To my mother, my best friend.”
But family experts warn that the new equality ( 平 等 ) can also result in less respect for parents.
“There’s still a lot strictness and authority ( 权威) on the part of parents out there, but there is a change
happening,” says Kerrie, a psychology professor at Lebanon Valley College, “In the middle of that change,
there is a lot of confusion among parents.”
Family researchers offer a variety of reasons for these changing roles and attitudes. They see the
1960s as a turning point. Great cultural changes led to more open communication and a more democratic
process that encourages everyone to have a say.
“My parents were on the ‘before’ side of that change, but today’s parents, the 40-year-olds, were on
the ‘after’ side,” explains Mr. Ballmer. “It’s not something easily accomplished by parents these days,
because life is more difficult to understand or deal with, but sharing interests does make it more fun to be a
parent now.”
28.The underlined word “gulf” in Para. 3 most probably means _________.
A.interest B.problem C.difference D.habit
29.Which of the following show that the generation gap is disappearing?
A.Parents help their children develop interests in more activities.
B.Parents put more trust in their children’s abilities.
C.Parents and children talk less about sex and drugs.
D.Parents share more interests with their children.
30.What is the change in today’s parent-child relationship?
A.Less confusion among parents
B.New equality between parents and children
C.More respect for parents from children
D.More strictness and authority on the part of parents
31.The purpose of the passage is to _________.
A.describe the difficulties today’s parents have met with
B.discuss the change of the parent-child relationship
C.suggest the ways to handle the parent-child relationship
D.stress the importance of parent-child relationship

Chinese cuisine (菜肴) is widely known and enjoyed all around the world. Who doesn’t long for a
favorite Chinese dish? But there is one interesting concept concerning Chinese food which is almost
unheard in the West, and which is becoming increasingly ignored by the youth of the East—the ancient
custom of tonic (滋补的) food.
Tonic food is food which is consumed to improve one’s well-being or avoid sickness. For instance, it
was once the custom for new mothers to eat a sesame oil(芝麻油) hotpot every day for the first month after
giving birth. It was believed that this dish would benefit the muscles, reduce pain, improve circulation,
stimulate sweating, and warm the body. Some foods, such as goat meat and spinach, are seen as “hot”,
while others, such as Chinese cabbage and radishes, are seen as “cold”. One should be careful not to eat too
much of either “hot” or “cold” food. However, how much “hot” or “cold” food one should eat depends on
the time of the year, how the food is prepared and what it is prepared with, and the individual’s health.
The custom of employing tonic food for a healthier life also influences the catering industry. Chinese
herbal medicines, such as the wolfberry (枸杞子), can be found on many a restaurant menu, either added to
fruit tea or as a beneficial addition to a dish. These herbs attract customers, such as overworked office staff,
in need of a modest pick-me-up.
So, whether you need to boost your strength with a large helping of chicken soup, or increase your
mental powers with a serving of pig brain soup, you may find that this ancient Chinese custom could be
just the tonic you were looking for.
32.What is the present situation of tonic food?
A.It is catching less attention. B.It is well known worldwide.
C.It is enjoyed by many young people. D.It is becoming increasingly popular.
33.What is believed to benefit new mothers?
A.Chinese cabbage. B.Fruit tea. C.Sesame oil hotpot. D.Pig brain soup.
34.Which of the following best explains “catering” underlined in paragraph 3?
A.Medicine. B.Restaurant. C.Education. D.Fashion.
35.What can be a suitable title for the text?
A.The Charm of Chinese Cuisine
B.The Increasing Popularity of Tonic Food
C.Some Information about Chinese Tonic Food
D.Differences Between Hot Food and Cold Food
第二节(共 5小题;每小题 2.5 分,满分 12.5 分)根据短文内容,从短文后的选项中选
出能填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。
If you can’t get your hands off your cellphone, you have unknowingly become a slave to this device.
Being addicted to a cellphone can be potentially harmful. Here are some reasons why you should use your
cellphone less.
36 Very often you forget the world outside your cellphone. Just leave the phone at home, take a
walk, and get to know what you really want in life. Discover what sparks your interest and pursue it with
all your heart.
You should focus more on personal interactions in real life. Can you hug your dad and feel his
strength through the phone? Can you kiss your mom goodnight over the phone? 37 Cellphones just
snatch these precious things away from you.
Your grades will go up. Leave your phone behind when going to school. Once you get home, don’t lie
on the bed and text your friends. 38 Your grades will improve.
You need to give your mind a break. Constantly chatting on the phone puts too much pressure on your
