make a mess. All you need to do is blow up a balloon and throw it at each other, making sure it doesn't hit the floor,
just like volleyball. This is another great game for all ages, even babies
Pictionary
Have you got any promising artists at home? This game is a classic and fun for kids and adults of almost all
ages. All you do is make teams and take some paper and pens to write proper words You can then either use the real
Pictionary cards or go the DIY route, creating your own cards. Write your own song or movie titles for great fun!
Indoor Hopscotch
Hopscotch can be made in so many different ways and doesn't necessarily have to be played with chalk on the

Most people have never heard of Tim Berners-Lee. He is not nearly as rich or famous as Mare Andreessen,
who is the founder of Netscape, or Bill Gates, whose name has become a well-known word.
Berners-Lee, who works in a small office at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, is the creator of the
World Wide Web. The creation of the Web is so important that some people compare Berners-Lee to Johann
Gutenberg, who invented printing by movable type (活字) in the fifteenth century.
Berners-Lee was born in England in 1955. His parents, who helped design the world's first commercially(商
业地) available computer, gave him a great love of mathematics and learning.
In 1980, Berners-Lee went to work at CERN, a physics laboratory in Geneva, Switzerland, where he had a lot
of material to learn quickly. He had a poor memory for facts and wanted to find a way to help him keep track of
things he couldn't remember. He invented a software program that allowed him to create a document that had links
to other documents. He continued to develop his idea through the 1980s. He wanted to find a way to connect the
knowledge and creativity of people all over the world.
In 1991, his project became known as the World Wide Web. The number of Internet users started to grow
quickly. However, Berners-Lee is not completely happy with the way the Web has developed. He thinks it has
become a passive tool for so many people, not the tool for creativity that he imagined.
In 1999, Berners-Lee published a book called Weaving the Web, in which he answers questions he is often
asked: What were you thinking when you invented the Web? What do you think of it now? Where is the Web going
to take us in the future?
4. From Paragraph 1 we can see ______.
A. Tim Berners-Lee has never heard of Netscape.
B. Mare Andreesen is as wealthy as Tim Berners-Lee.
C. We know little about Tim Berners-Lee.
D. Bill Gates is as known as Tim Berners-Lee.
5. Why is Johann Gutenberg mentioned in Paragraph 2?
A. To prove the popularity of printing. B. To stress the position of Berners-Lee.
C. To convey people's app reciation for him. D. To introduce his invention of printing.
6. What can we learn about Berners-Lee?
A. He was proud of his achievement. B. He was good at memorizing facts quickly.
C. He was creative and knowledgeable. D. He was productive in writing books.
7. What can be a suitable title for the text?
A. A Great Inventor-Berners-Lee. B. A Famous Book-Weaving the Web.

For some people, music is no fun at all. About 4% of the population is what scientists call "amusic". People
who are amusic are born without the ability to enjoy music al notes. Amusic people often cannot tell the differences
between two songs.
As a result, songs sound like noise to an a music. Many amusics compare the sound of music to pieces of
metal hitting each other. Life can be hard for amusics. In fact, most people cannot understand what it feels like to be
amusic. Just going to a restaurant or a shopping center can be uncomfortable or even painful. That is why many
amusics have to stay away from places where there is music. However, this can result in social loneliness. "I used to
hate parties," says Margaret,a seventy-year-old woman who only recently discovered that she was amusic. By
studying people like Margaret, scientists are finally learning how to identify this unusual condition.
Scientists say that the brains of amusics are different from those of people who can enjoy music. The
difference is complex, as it is not connected with poor hearing and has nothing to do with intelligence. Amusics can
understand other non-musical sounds well. They also have no problems understanding common speech. Scientists
compare amusics to people who just can't see certain colors.
Many amusics are happy when their condition is finally diagnosed ( 诊 断 ) . For years, Margaret felt
embarrassed about her music problem. Now she knows that she is not alone. That makes it easier for her to explain.
"When people invite me to a concert, I just say' No, thanks. I'm amusic,'" says Margaret.
8. Amusics are the people who ______.
A. have a preference for music. B. have trouble in hearing.
C. have a talent for music D. are born unable to enjoy music.
9. Life is hard for amusics mainly because ______.
A. they fail to understand music. B. they find their normal life disturbed.
C. they try to stay at the place full of music. D. they regard music as noise.
10. What does the underlined word "complex" mean in paragraph 3?
A. Difficult. B. Obvious. C. Basic D. Small.
11. What is the main idea of the passage?
A. Some people's musical ability. B. Some people's inability to enjoy music.
C. Amusics' strange behaviors. D. Diagnosis and treatment of amusics.
D
When I mentioned to some friends that we all have accents, most of them proudly replied, "Well, I speak
perfect English/Chinese/etc." But this kind of answer misses the point.
More often than not, what we mean when we say someone "has an accent" is that their accent is different from
the local one, or that pronunciations are different from our own. But this definition of accents is limiting and could
give rise to prejudice ( 偏见). Funnily enough, in terms of the language study, every person speaks with an accent.
It is the regular differences in how we produce sounds that define our accents. Even if you don't hear it yourself,
you speak with some sort of accent. In this sense, it's pointless to point out that someone "has an accent". We all do!
Every person speaks a dialect, too. In the field of language study, a dialect is a version of a language that is
characterized by its variations of structure, phrases and words. For instance, "You got eat or not?" (meaning "Have
you eaten?") is an acceptable and understood question in Singapore Oral English. The fact that this expression
would cause a standard American English speaker to take pause doesn't mean that Singapore Oral English is
"wrong" or "ungrammatical". The sentence is well-formed and clearly communicative, according to native
Singapore English speakers' solid system of grammar. Why should it be wrong just because it's different?
We need to move beyond a narrow conception of accent s and dialects — for the benefit of everyone.
Language differences like these provide insights into people's cultural experiences and backgrounds. In a global
age, the way one speaks is a distinct part of one's identity. Most people would be happy to talk about the cultures
behind their speech. We'd learn more about the world we live in and make friends along the way.
12. What does the author think of his/ her friends' response in paragraph 1?
A. It misses the real meaning of accents. B. It reflects their language levels.
C. It misses the point of communication. D. It reflects their self confidence.
13. Why does the author use the example of Singapore Oral English?
