Four Best Places to Camp around the World
There are few more rewarding feelings than putting up your tent and spending the night beneath the stars.
From New Zealand to Finland, this is our pick of four best places to camp around the globe.
Mount Cook National Park, New Zealand
You can't talk about the best places to camp without mentioning New Zealand's otherworldly landscapes. Aoraki
(or Mount Cook) is the country's highest mountain, and the surrounding rocky region is the South Island's finest
outdoor playground. Views from the campgrounds here are simply amazing.
Devon, England
The southwest of England feels a million miles from the rest of the UK. The campsites on Dartmoor and
Exmoor are fantastic places to build a tent. However, you'll also find spots with unbeatable views along the rocky
cliffs that sweep down to the Atlantic on the north Devon coast. Come in autumn, when you can watch a huge red
sunset slowly over the horizon.
The Alps, France
As a ski resort in the winter months, the Alps transform as the snow melts. Once the moderate spring weather
arrives, so do hikers and campers. You'll find beautifully fresh alpine air and old villages nestled in the foothills.
It's one of the best places to camp, made all the more special by the starry night sky above.
Hossa National Park, Finland
Finland's newest national park (which opened in 2017) is in the wild northeast of the country. You'll find here
a rugged landscape of rivers, lakes and forests. Finland welcomes wild campers and the park is dotted with remote
shelters and plain cabins, all with spots for campfires.
21. What do Mount Cook National Park and Devon have in common?
A. Near the coast. B. Ski resorts in winter.
C. Fantastic views around campsites. D. The time to visit.
22. Which place will be chosen for accommodation if you don't take a tent?
A. Mount Cook National Park. B.Devon.
C. The Alps. D.Hossa National Park
23. Where is the text most probably taken from?
A. A reflection in a travel journal B. A guidebook to camping.
C.An essay about tourism. D. An introduction to traveling.

Marco Polo came from a family of merchants. His father Niccolo and uncle Maffeo already left Venice in
1261 to establish new relationships in the East, where they met Kublai Khan during this first journey.
Their meeting was one of the greatest encounters between East and West in history. The brothers found in the
Khan a man whose curiosity about the West matched theirs about the East. The relationship they built with the
Mongols made them pioneering intermediaries( 中间人),through whom knowledge of Europe and China could
travel in both directions.
After returning to Venice, the brothers planned another journey to the court of Kublai Khan. This time, they
would bring Niccolo's son, Marco, who was a boy when his father last saw him ten years before, was now 17
years old. After three and a half years of travelling through Central Asia, the Polos eventually reached their royal
destination. Marco, then aged 21, became one of the few to be received by Kublai Khan at his summer palace.
During their 17 years of stay in China, Marco was sent on many journeys around the country and its neighboring
lands. When the time came to return to Europe, the Polos' sea voyage home was another journey, taking them
through the South China Sea, Vietnam, Malaysia, Sumatra and Sri Lanka.
Marco's account of his journey -called The Travels of Marco Polo —became a best-seller partly because of
its new insights into a distant part of the world. While travelers' tales from the ancient Silk Road had been
distributed before, the wealth of information Marco provided on China and its surrounding lands was unparalleled
at the time. Not only did it offer readers strange and fantastic details about faraway places, but the work also
presented practical information of use to merchants who were interested in international trade.
Marco's eagerness to record the goods being produced and how they could be transported caught the mood of
the times. Information from The Travels was useful in improving maps of East Asia, which fed trade relations.
This knowledge fueled a growing curiosity about the world as Europe moved into the Renaissance and the Age of
Discovery toward the end of the 1400s. Better navigation enabled eastward as well as westward trade in that
