Time for an adventure?
Are you a bit bored with your nine-to-five routine? Have a look at our exciting range of holidays
and decide what type of adventure you’d like.
Activity holidays
Our activity holidays are for everyone, people who love danger or who just like sports. We have a
huge variety of water, snow or desert holidays. We’ll take you scuba diving in the Red Sea or
kayaking and white water rafting in Canada. If you prefer snow, you can try skiing or snowboarding
in the Alps or even igloo building. For those who like warmer weather, we also have sandboarding
(the desert version of skateboarding) or camel safaris.
Polar expeditions
Take an expedition to Antarctica or the northern Arctic; explore a land of white natural beauty and
wonderful wildlife. Our experts will explain everything about the two poles as you watch the
penguins in Antarctica or whales and polar bears in the Arctic. There’s no greater adventure than
travelling to the ends of the earth. A once-in-a-lifetime experience.
Cultural journeys
Our cultural journeys will help you discover ancient civilizations: India, Thailand, Egypt and
many more. Visit temples, palaces and ancient ruins—just remember to bring your camera! Get to
know local ways of life by exploring markets, trying exotic foods and meeting local people.

Many independent Chinese women like to earn their own bread, even if their husbands are already
bringing home the bacon. But a recent survey suggests that such women find more joy from
relationships,rather than successful careers.
About 73 percent of the 7,000 women surveyed in Beijing, Shanghai and Guangzhou said they
would choose to work even if their husbands earned enough for the family. The survey also found
that 77 percent define happiness as “enjoying a relationship”.
But striking a balance between career and family can bring challenges to the woman’s career
advancement.
“In my company, women usually have an equal or even a higher starting salary than men,” said Li
Hua, general manager of Beijing Chuangjiashe Book Circulation Company. “However, as they begin
to climb up the career ladder, women often meet problems along the way, while men can climb the
ladder more easily.”
Both physical and emotional differences can prevent some women from taking tough
positions,Li said. But family life is often the main difficulty for Chinese career women.
Despite these challenges ,however ,some experts believe it’s reasonable for some women to
want to be breadwinners.
“In this way, the roles of a family are decided by the parents’ abilities rather than their gender( 性
别),” said Gu Donghui, a sociology professor at Fudan University.
Gu says women should have the freedom to decide if they want to stay at home or work to support
the family. “Everyone has a different explanation of what it means to find self-worth”.
Wang Haibin, an economic expert from Renmin University shares that view: “Traditionally, we
tend to regard the family as the cell unit of society. Some members have always been expected to
make sacrifices for it. But ,it really doesn’t matter who earns more. Economic independence and
personal choice is essential for both sexes in the family.”
4. What brings career women more joy and happiness according to the passage?
A. Relationships. B. Money. C. Challenges. D. Successful careers.
5. What’s the main problem that career women meet while working?
A. Physical difference. B. Tough positions. C. Family life. D. The career ladder.
6. Some women want to be breadwinners probably because .
A. their families are poor B. they have a lot of children
C. their husbands do not work D. they want to show their self-worth
7. Who should make sacrifice for the family according to the passage?
A. The wife. B. Either of them. C. The husband. D. Neither of them.

I had spent about 5 years running a booth( 摊位), where I could see a wonderful comedian. His
name was Moonie, whose skit(小喜剧) was done using nothing but gestures and noises instead of
words. I remember watching his shows and always being entertained. Even when he was having a
bad day, the audience wasn’t cooperating, and he always managed to keep things fun, funny, lively,
and fresh. That’s a very hard thing to do the same skits and jokes for 5 years several times a day,
each weekend.
When I heard it would be his last time performing there ,I had wanted to thank him for all the
amazing shows he had done on that stage across from the booth where I worked. He was standing
with the crowd after one of his last shows of the day,and as each person dropped a tip into his big
basket,he was pointing at them with a huge smile and then saying “You’re the greatest!” to each
one.
I approached him and dropped $20 into his basket, and he turned to me then ,smiling very
brightly, pointing, and continued with another “You’re the greatest!”So I looked at him directly
then, and stopped him saying.“No,Moonie. You are the greatest. I have been watching your shows
for 5 years from that booth right over there ,and I just wanted to say thank you for the years of
amazing shows that you have given me.”
The look on his face said that he was genuinely and truly touched by that comment. He politely
asked me what my name was and asked to shake my hand. I accepted and we shared a very deep
moment of mutual respect and gratitude. I walked away happily, and I knew he did too.
12. As Moonie’s skit wasn’t welcomed by the audience,he would .
A. give it up immediately B. continue to perform hard
C. tell a funny story D. try a difficult movement
13. Why did the writer give $20 to Moonie?
A. Because everyone dropped a tip into his big basket.
B. Because he wished to thank Moonie for his shows.
C. Because Moonie gave him a lot of encouragement.
D. Because he wanted to help Moonie to support his family.
14. What is the message mainly expressed in the story?
A. We should learn to be generous.
B. Good things will happen if one keeps trying.
C. Expressing gratitude can also make you happy.
15. Which of the following words can best describe the ending of the story?
A. Disappointing. B. Unexpected. C. Uncertain. D. Inspiring.
