W: Right, John. Lets quickly summarize our presentation one last time before heading to the meeting room.
Text 2
M: Hey, let’s hit the coffee shop on Elm Street after our morning jog.
W: Sounds good, Tom. But isn’t the Farmers’ Market downtown opening today? We could grab breakfast there too.
Text 3
W: Students, class is over. Gather your materials. We’re going to the science lab on the third floor for today’s experiment.
M: Yes, Ms. Smith! We’re excited for the chemistry session.
Text 4
W: Hey, the new home robot made breakfast! Tasted great.
M: Cool. I set it to learn your preferences. Our bots are getting smarter daily.
W: True. But I still wish it could understand emotions better.
M: AI researchers are working on considerate robots. Give it time.
Text 5
W: Hey, have you heard about the city-wide art competition?
M: Yeah, planning to enter. Themes are diversesocial issues, landscapes.
W: Great! I’ll paint city life.
M: Perfect. I’m doing digital art on environmental protection. Good luck!
Text 6
W: This is going to be the most challenging climb we’ve ever done. What do you know about hiking at height?
M: I know were likely to get short of breath because theres less oxygen in the air. Theres nothing to be concerned
about, though. It’ll slow us down a bit, that’s all.
W: I can deal with that. At least we’ve invested in decent equipment. We ought to have done a bit more training, though.
I’m not sure how confident I am that we’ll reach the top.
M: I’m sure we will. And the views are said to be amazing. You can look down over the whole of the island from up there.
Text 7
W: I wish we didn’t have Mr Harris teaching us history.
M: Why? Don’t you like him?
W: Its not that. Hes a good teacher, and he always explains things really well. He makes the lessons interesting and
easy to understand, which is really good.
M: I know. I never used to like history before, but I really enjoy lessons with Mr Harris.

W: Me too. But I wish he wouldnt give us so much homework on a Friday. Now I’ve got to spend the whole weekend
studying!
M: No, you haven’t! We’ll go to the library together this evening and we’ll be finished in time to enjoy the weekend!
Text 8
M: What are you thinking about selecting future course?
W: My parents want me to study medical science.
M: What is your opinion?
W: I also expect to get admitted into this course.
M: Great to hear, Jane. It is a very nice job. But have you thought over the hard labor it will mean?
W: I don’t think any work hard for me, especially for a course that offers me good opportunities to earn honor
everywhere.
M: Indeed you are on the positive view.
W: Thanks a lot. What about your choice?
M: My ambition is to study law as I want to be a lawyer. So, I like the subject very much.
W: Law? Why do you prefer this subject?
M: I think this subject is respectable and there are huge opportunities to work both home and abroad if I seriously study.
W: Yes, it’s really a good choice.
Text 9
W: How about the view?
M: It’s truly breathtaking. What’s that massive building with the lights out there?
W: That’s Moonlight Tower, a popular spot for dancing. It stays open till four in the morning. By the way, to your left is
Sunnyslope Hill. I love taking a walk or reading a book there when the weathers nice.
M: Sunnyslope Hill, huh? Sounds perfect for joggers too. Hey, who’s that statue in the center?
W: That’s Old Keller. He stands around 100 feet tall, I believe. James Keller was a significant figure here in the past, so
when he passed away, they built this marble statue in his honor.
M: Got it. And that one...over there on the right, it’s pretty striking.
W: Yeah, everyone calls it the Torch because of its shape. It was constructed post-World War II, and it lists the names of
all the city’s fallen soldiers.
M: Why are we stopping here?
W: Because we’re gonna grab a bite to eat at that place.
M: Oh, Sparky’s Deli?
W: Yep! Known for its sandwiches, they’ve got the best in the city.
M: Awesome! I’m starving.
Text 10
Attention everyone! Please note an update regarding the geography trip: First of all it is no longer on Monday 13th
June, it is on Wednesday 14th, sorry I mean Wednesday 15th June. On this day, we’ll go on a tiring hike up a high hill
groups will be formed and each will receive a map to find the way towards the meeting point.
Remember, electronic devices won’t be used, so rely on the provided maps. The journey begins with a coach ride
to the hill’s base, about 12km away from school, followed by a 4km uphill hike. However, there’s a car park at the
summit, so you won’t double back downhill, so we wouldn’t make you walk 8 kilometers in one day.
For safety and comfort, it s necessary to wear strong hiking shoes instead of beach shoes. Sun hats are also
recommended. Lunch will be provided mid-hike, and after completing the walk, we’ll enjoy drinks and cake at a café.
The coach will pick us up around 6 p.m., aiming for a 7 p.m. return to school except for any traffic delays. Any questions?
