What do you think of domestic brands ( 国 产 品 牌 )? Chinese buyers used to prefer foreign brands. They
thought that products made by foreign companies were better than Chinese ones. With the development of China,
the situation has changed. Here are three persons’ opinions.

Chinese people born before 1985 usually think foreign brands are better than Chinese ones, but for those born
after 1985, they don’t think so.
When I went to England in 1997. I thought the difference between China and Europe was quite big. However,
for those born in the 1990s, when they visit Europe, they do not think the difference is big.

More young Chinese buyers are showing their love for domestic brands. This change is shown in many
markets.
More than 90% of young Chinese buyers prefer domestic appliance ( 电 器 ) brands. For the domestic
companies which produce food, drinks, or personal care products, their share of the market was only 3.3% ten years
ago, but it has increased to nearly 70% by now.

Chinese buyers especially the young people don’t believe foreign brands are better. They think “Made in
China” is better than before.
The Chinese smartphone market is controlled by domestic companies — Huawei, Oppo, Vivo and Xiaomi.
Apple is the only foreign brand in the top five, but it has lost large ground in recent years. Its market share was
down to 37% in 2018, although it was 54% in 2015
