Ronald Hennig, an 18-year-old, self-confident young man, remembers a crucial moment two years
ago when a family member passed away. This left him with an urgent yet ignored need: a suit for the
funeral. As an adopted child, he couldn’t afford one and felt ashamed of the idea of going to the funeral
in ordinary clothes. His caseworker was unable to take his request into consideration, which made him
more desperate.
In despair, One Simple Wish, a platform founded by Danielle Gletow in 2008, became a ray of
hope. This online place for adopted children connected Ronald’s sincere wish with an unknown donor,
and he got a made-to-measure suit. At the funeral, he paid proper respect to his loved one. For years, the
platform has changed the lives of countless adopted children, fulfilling their wishes, such as getting
bicycles or having music lessons. Furthermore, the online organization has launched projects like the
Ohana Project, which provides essential support during life changes, and Wish to Work, which equips
older adopted youth like Ronald with learning skills and inspires them to go to college. Ronald’s success
story shows its influence.
Danielle, who changed from an adoptive parent to a supporter, recognized the unmet needs and
came up with a solution. She ensures the credibility of her platform through social services. It
encourages people all over the world to be generous and turns dreams into reality at a low cost.
Motivated by the belief that every child should have a better life, Danielle calls on society to pay
attention and take action, stressing the importance of even the smallest wishes. One Simple Wish
promotes a culture of online charity, bringing warmth and leaving a lasting impact. In this connected
age, every click may bring happiness, and every wish, no matter how small, has the possibility of
coming true.

The world’s elderly population is increasing. The number of older people - those aged 60 years or
older - is expected to double by 2050 and is growing faster than all younger age groups across the world.
That comes with an increasing need for caregivers who can provide24-hour care, not only at hospitals or
nursing homes, but also at private homes.

450,000 by 2045 because of the expected caregiver shortage in the United States.
“Unluckily, the hard structure of present caregiving robots prevents them from a safe human-robot
interaction, limiting their assistance to only social interaction and not physical interaction,” said Ramses
Martinez, an assistant professor in Purdue’s College of Engineering. “After all, would you leave babies
or old people in the hands of a robot?”
