International Development Observer（IDO）is a group in China that helps with things around the world. The
people who lead it are very experienced in helping countries grow. IDO works on three main things: how countries
work together, how one country helps another, and big problems that affect everyone. Since it started in 2020, IDO
has written lots of articles, and many people from different countries have read them. These readers are from
governments, the United Nations and NGOs.
Now, IDO wants students to help check how well their articles are translated into English. Here’s what the
students will do.
ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Work closely with the IDO team and volunteers who will be tasked:
·Read the English versions of articles that were first written in Chinese.
·Make the English articles on the IDO website even better.

Mike was in my third-grade class. All the 34 students were dear to me, but he was one in a million. Very neat
in appearance, he had that happy-to-be-alive attitude which made even his occasional mischievousness（调皮捣
蛋）delightful.
He often talked incessantly. I had to remind him repeatedly that talking without permission was not acceptable.
What impressed me so much, though, was his sincere reply every time I corrected him for misbehaving: “Thank
you for correcting me, Madam!” I didn’t know what to make of it at first, but before long I became used to hearing
it many times a day.
One Friday, after working hard on a new concept all week, I sensed that the students were frustrated with
themselves and edgy（烦躁不安的）with one another. So I asked them to list the names of the other students and
write down the nicest thing they could say about each of their classmates. As the students left the room, each one
handed me the paper.
That Saturday, I wrote down the name of each student on a separate sheet of paper and listed what everyone
else had said about that individual. On Monday, I gave each student his or her list. Some of them ran two pages.
Before long, the whole class were smiling. “I didn’t know others liked me so much!” Mike said, “Thank you for
teaching me, Madam.”
