It was a sunny afternoon in June of 2022 when 20-year-old Anthony Perry stepped off the train
at Chicago’s 69th Street station. On the platform, two men were fighting bitterly. Then the unthinkable
happened: the pair fell over the edge and onto the tracks. One man ended up on his back. Suddenly, he
started convulsing ( 抽搐) unnaturally. He had fallen on the third rail, the conduit ( 导线管)for
the 600 volts of electricity that powers Chicago’s L trains. The aggressor (挑衅者) leaped backward,
bounded back up onto the platform and disappeared.
Perry couldn’t just stand there and watch. He sat at the edge of the platform and eased himself
down. He took a few quick bounds and approached the victim(受害者).The guy looked dead, his body
still moving violently as the electricity pulsed (搏动). Gathering up his courage, Perry reached
down and grasped the victim’s wrist. Instantly, he felt a blast of electric shock shoot through his
body. Perry shrank and jumped back. He reached down a second time, and was shocked again. But
the third time he seized the man’s wrist and forearm and, braving the shock, pulled with all his
strength. The guy’s body slid briefly along the third rail, coming to rest on the gravel on the outer
edge of the tracks.
The man was breathing, but irregularly.Something wasn’t right. “Give him chest compressions
(按压)!” yelled a woman. Perry was no expert, but for a few moments he worked on the man’s
heart until the victim began convulsing. Then he heard a sudden noise behind him — medical
workers and firefighters had arrived. Perry let the professionals take over. His heart still racing from
the electric shocks,he climbed back up onto the platform, grabbed his things and headed home.
The evening news reported the incident. After a friend outed him to the media, Perry became
the toast of Chicago. Perry was then recruited by the Chicago Fire Department and is now training to
be an emergency medical technician.
24. What made the rescue of the victim particularly difficult?
A. The man had lost his consciousness(意识).

C.Therescuerwasatriskofanelectricshock.
D. The electricity powering trains was hard to cut off.
25. What can be inferred about Perry according to paragraphs 3—4?
A. He had received professional first aid training.
B. The local newspaper interviewed him on the spot.
C. His chest compressions played a key role in saving life.
D. His heart beat fast because of nervousness and tiredness.

A. Perry landed a job in the Fire Department.
B. The city of Chicago awarded Perry a prize.
C. People in Chicago toasted(干杯) Perry for his brave deeds.
D. Perry got popular and greatly admired in Chicago.
27. What is the author’s main purpose of writing the text?

C. To stress the importance of calmness in rescue work.
D. To display people’s cooperation in assisting the victim.

When faced with the decision to get out of bed or have a few more minutes of sleep, which do you
choose?Believe it or not, that decision could make a world of difference in the rest of your day.
About 85 percent of Americans use an alarm clock to wake up in the mornings, according to sleep
researcher Till Roennenber. And while there are no official numbers on snoozing(打盹),aquicksurvey
of social media makes it clear that hitting the snooze button is a popular pastime.
As to how the snooze button(贪睡按钮) will affect your day, scientists have mixed opinions. Some
scientists think people who hit the snooze button in the mornings are actually clever, creative and happy
while some said that hitting the snooze button will ruin your life,or at the very least your day. "I feel that
hitting the snooze button has got to be one of the worst things that ever happened to human sleep,"
researcher Jonathan Horowitz said. "The chances of you 'snoozing' and actually experiencing a
meaningful rest are close to zero."
According to some sleep experts, when hitting the snooze button, you are in fact confusing your
body and mind, and throwing yourself into a deep state of being sleepy. The body needs some time to
wake up,so,when returning to what will be a light sleep for a brief period of time, you are putting your
body back into a sleep mode before waking it again. At that point your body won't know what it wants,
resulting in a sort of half awaken state.
If you really want to take advantage of an alarm clock, the key is to form a healthy sleep cycle. Focus
your efforts on getting enough sleep each night and waking up at the same time each day so that when
your alarm goes off you feel rested.
28. What can we infer about hitting the snooze button from Paragraph 2?______
A. People do it just for fun. B. It is a common practice.
C. People take it seriously. D. It is a bit childish.
29. What do some sleep experts think of hitting the snooze button?______
A. It is meaningful in the long term. B. It makes people become lazy.
C. It brings us a sense of satisfaction. D. It affects our body and mind.
30. What's the author's suggestion on getting the best out of alarms?______
A. Forming a good sleep habit. B. Trying to relax ourselves.
C. Making use of willpower. D. Using an extra alarm.
31. What is the best title for the text?______
A. Ways to keep refreshed in the morning. B. The snooze button and people's character.
C.Shouldyourelyonthesnoozebutton?D. How to avoid the light sleep mode?
D
The creators of Mission Io Mars AR meant it to be educational, with plenty of up-to-the-minute
facts and figures about Mars exploration. But don’t let that put you off. It’s also a lot of fun. And it
shows how far phone-based AR has progressed in the four and a half years since Pokemon Go, a 2016
AR mobile game, sent millions of people out into the streets searching for imaginary creatures.
The free app, which comes out in time for next week’s landing of the Perseverance rover (探测
器) on Mars, is nearly identical in design to the Smithsonian Channel’s Apollo’s Moon Shot released
for the 50th anniversary of the moon landing in 2019. In that one, you could use your phone to send a
virtual Saturn V rocket into space, and learn about the Apollo astronauts and their machines through
more than a dozen interactive experiences. Take some photos on the moon, suited up in the Apollo
11 spacesuit, and share with friends on social media.
Simple AR has taken off in shopping apps and social media in recent years. But Mission to
Mars AR shows that the technology is capable of much more than just adding rabbit ears or cool
sunglasses to your selfies (自拍). The app offers seven experiences, starting with an overview of
Martian geography. Tun the globe in front of you to inspect the planer’s frozen polar caps and vast
valleys.
The experiences in Mission to Mars AR add a bit more challenge, but are easy to master after a
couple of tries. Guide Perseverance through its “seven minutes of terror” -- NASA’s now
semi-official term fora Mars landing. The “Mission to Mars” module offers the most interaction.
You guide the rover from rock to rock, using a laser to analyze their contents while being careful
not to crash or get stuck in the sand. You can even fly a small helicopter on Perseverance, which is
sure to be one of the real mission’s highlights.
Just as NASA rovers have advanced from tiny Sojourner in the 1990s to Perseverance, we’ve
come a long way from just downloading Mars photos for our desktop wallpaper.
32. What does the underlined part “put you off” in paragraph 1 mean?
A. Cheat you. B. Confuse you. C. Delay you. D. Discourage you.
33. What can players do with Apollo’s Moon Shot?
A. Launch a virtual Saturn V rocket.
B. Help Perseverance land on Mars safely.
C. Take photos with the Apollo astronauts.
D. Dress themselves in the latest spacesuits.
34. Why does the author mention specifics in paragraph 3?
A. To stress(强调) their popularity.
B. To reveal(揭示) AR’s advancement.
C.To encourage people to use social media.
D. To doubt the value ofMission to Mars AR.
35. What is the text mainly about?
A cool way to learn about Mars.
B.Challenges for space exploration.
C.Some basic facts about NASA rovers.
D A new AR app designed for astronauts.
